Good vegan Mexican - Edit
Lots of veggie options here and all clearly marked on the menu.
Read moreWe ordered 2 jackfruit small burritos and they were delish! I had jalapeños on mine and they were actually really spicy, I’m usually okay with them so beware!
They source everything locally and ethically (as possible) which is nice to see too.
My only qualm was the waiter was taking money and making food with the same gloves which was a bit weird for me.
Pros: Lots of vegan options , Quick

Lots of options - Edit
Plenty of vegan options! Very fast service, nice staff. I wish the dish were a little less spicy and the sauce wasn’t quite as good as I’ve had elsewhere but a tasty and filling meal anyway. Vegan cheese avaliable

Clearly marked vegan items and open late - Edit
We found Illegal Jack's via HappyCow after being turned away at two other places that were supposed to be still serving food. Vegan items were clearly marked. Portions were ample. The burritos weren't especially flavorful, in my opinion. I think they needed more cheese and more seasoning in the sauce. But we were grateful to find an option after 9:00 p.m., which can be a challenge.

Good lunch option - Edit
You can get a burrito (with a choice of 4 vegan fillings) including a soft drink for 6.50 here, which is a good price for Edinburgh. The burritos are very good and the only thing I was missing was something fresh like a salad (but I guess that is just the nature of a burrito...)

Food was really good! Friendly staff, vegan options and vegan cheese! Staff happy to make changes to menu items to make them vegan. Nice relaxed vibe inside. A lot of deliveroo and Uber eats drivers taking up space waiting inside for their deliveries though.

Would give 5 stars! - Edit
Illegal Jack's is wonderful! Me and friends went here yesterday last minute since the place we wanted to go to fell through. I am so impressed! The menu is varied and even has jackfruit! The staff make everything very clear and ask what type of cheese you want (vegan or dairy). The food was absolutely delicious. The portion sizes are great and is pretty affordable. I also enjoyed the causal vibe of the place and the music they played. Illegal Jack's - you have found yourself a new regular!

A pleasant rediscovery - Edit
I enjoyed Illegal Jack's in my pre-vegan days, and after they left their location on Lothian Road I'd thought they had closed. I was pleased to realise they had actually relocated. We visited at the end of April, and tried the jackfruit quesadilla. It was very tempting to order a second one, it was so good!
Read moreThey have a large number of vegan options, and that includes more innovative options like jackfruit and veggie haggis, which is welcome.

I tried their Jackfruit quesadilla and I wasn't disappointed. It was delicious, full of flavours and juicy. I just wish every Mexican place had a jackfruit option!

Jackfruit tacos sooo good - Edit
Ordered the jackfruit carnitas tacos which were full of flavour! Came with 3 tacos filled with bbq jackfruit, tomatoes, salsa, lettuce, vegan cheese, and I added guacamole. There’s a self serve sauce area so we tried the a few commercially bought chills as well as one homemade bottle of pineapple bbq chilli (very impressed). Lots of choices on menu for vegans, Vegos and meat eaters alike. Partner ordered a burrito and wow they are such good value for money. I’ll definitely return here when in Edinburgh for some tasty Mexican.
Read morePros: Plenty of vegan menu items, Vegan cheese didn’t cost extra, Decent pricing

Pulled jackfruit quesadillas - oh my! - Edit
When Jack added vegan cheese to his menu it was a revelation. Now over 50% of Illegal Jack's offering is suitable for vegans. Try the pulled jackfruit quesadillas - I don't think you can find them anywhere else in the country and they are absolutely superb. The vegan haggis burrito is also a local delicacy that's well worth trying.

Vegan Edinburgh Review - Edit
http://veganedinburgh.com/illegal-jacks/
Read moreLike many Edinburgh locals, Illegal Jacks has a special place in my heart. Thanks to its delicious food and an owner that is very savvy on social media, this tex-mex restaurant has a very loyal cult following.
How loyal, you ask? Loyal enough to fund an entire move and rebuild when the ceiling caved in. That’s how loyal.
The community loves Jack almost as much as Jack loves the Edinburgh community. He’s never far away on Twitter and he prides himself in using local suppliers as much as he can for his food and drink offering.
Illegal Jacks is quintessential Edinburgh and definitely worth a visit.
Pros: Excellent food, Generous portions, Takes social media bookings
Cons: They have vegan cheese, but not vegan sour cream.
