We didn’t get the food but we got the vegan ice cream several times. Would love to go back to try the food next time

Great cheap options!

The food is so cheap and really good! They have plant-based curry, meatballs, veggie dogs, and ice cream. The soft serve ice cream was crazy good. The section with frozen food has vegan karaage which is a MUST try. Flavor is better than restaurant karaage, the bag os huge, and it’s not over-fried.

For the seating area and cafeteria go to the 7th floor. Ice cream and hot dogs are on the 1st floor.

Soft serve ice cream is incredible!

I can’t remember when I had soft serve ice cream that was this good and only for 50 yen! Highly recommend!

The restaurant on the seventh floor was an okay experience for me — maybe because I wasn’t familiar with what IKEA usually offers in its cafe / restaurant! It was hard communicating that I wanted vegan / plant based food — they handed me an allergens guide for their food but everything was in Japanese so it was time consuming to translate and figure out what to get. In the end, it turned out that they only had veggie balls (or plant balls, one of the two is vegan) available. It was tasty but not very filling. I see here that people also got the mashed potatoes but I am not certain they are vegan.

Really cheap vegan meals

Bistro on the 1st floor, restaurant is on the 7th floor!

Really cheap vegan meals, either sides or full meals. Menu varies from month to month, also from branch to branch - but I always enjoy the food here. Remember: the plant based plate with gravy, mashed potatoes and jam is not fully vegan - only the veggie balls are.

Super cheap soft serve ice cream!

I’m not gonna lie—sometimes I’m just automatically impressed with the idea that something like this exists (especially for dirt cheap at an IKEA of all places) that a 3 star rating ends up being a 4 star rating because my expectations were zero. But, realistically, it was like finding water in the dessert. Not that there aren’t excellent vegan desserts and sweets in Tokyo but it’s not always easy to find a bakery or they have weird hours—also it’s vegan SOFT SERVE! It’s not easy to find anywhere! The little donuts were super delicious and ice cream was good. I believe it was either oat or almond milk based because it had a strong aftertaste of one of those. But it’s hard for me to put my finger on which one. Definitely recommend!

Pros: Super inexpensive , Easy to order self service kiosk, Fast service

Cons: No seating available where we ordered , Extremely busy/crowded

Mostly Solid These Days

I love stopping in on the first floor for the cheapest vegan soft serve on the planet any time I’m in Shibuya.

This IKEA is special for its 7th floor food court, which is really more of a lounge. I enjoy a longer stay upstairs with wifi, endless drinks and a few protein, curry options. Great coworking, studying or socializing spot.

The menu is always changing and recently I’ve gotten to a point of trust on their plant based labeling. Be careful as it’s been hit or miss in the past years and I’ve wound up eating meat accidentally here before.

Ice cream and castella

Had the tasty ice cream over baby castella! Was not too sweet and the castella were so light. You can get them on the bistro on the first floor and order from a kiosk

Can never go wrong with IKEA!

Great place to go when missing the western palate. Features classics like Swedish meatballs in veganised version. The soft-serve ice cream in the bistro is also vegan and very cheap!

Ikea is never bad

Ikea is good for when you're missing some western food. Options include soup, meatballs and side dishes like karaage, as well as their soft serve ice cream.

Plant based Karaage was real good!

It’s a good place to stop for a snack, in the menu there were just a few vegan options like the veggie dog and the PB karaage but they worked for me and you can pay through your IC card because its a cashless business. I also tried the soft serve ice cream but I didn’t find it that creamy. It was ok I guess, the PB karaage was my favorite.

Pros: The plant based karaage is great and totally vegan, Paying with an IC card like suika is practical, It’s a super fast service

Cons: They don’t have options if you only have cash, Super crowded on weekends, rends it unpractical, Not healthy at all but really fast

Only full vegan menu is the Curry (Restaurant) :(

According to the labeling (green flag) the only vegan menu is the Curry.

Plant balls are vegan too yes, but within the plant balls menu the mashed potatoes, gravy and even the Lingonberry jam are not vegan apparently.

They are also not flexible to just give out a menu with plants balls and fries. We tried and they did after a while but we had to pay the full menu price fries whilst just taking the plant balls.

Bit disappointing since in other IKEAs around the world meanwhile even the gravy is made vegan :(

The bistro is fun!

We came by here on our way back from shopping. I picked up a plant-based soft serve. It was very crowded but a lot of fun to stand around with the locals leaving school and work.

Pros: Inexpensive , Great place to watch the busy streets, Fast

Always happy with the food here!

When missing the food from back home Ikea is always the place to go. Tastes good as always and the dining area was very clean and pleasant compared to a lot of other Ikea’s around the world.

Not sure it's vegan.

Couldn't find anything definitive saying it's vegan. In my googling, I found this page with these descriptions, though I'm not certain where exactly this applies.
https://www.ikea.com/jp/en/stores/restaurant/
We also found some sources saying that the stuff served with the meatballs isn't vegan, and only the balls themselves are (again though, not definitive).
I think we need to reach out to ikea Japan to get a definitive answer.

Super affordable bites

Several vegan options in the cafe, including kiwi soft serve and a vegan hot dog that you can get with chili con carne on the top. Hot dog with the toppings is only 180 yen and the cone is only 50 yen! Others have noted the portions are not that large, but well worth it given the low price. Just buy two😄
