Customer Service is Lacking - Edit
We tried this place about 6 years ago, during a visit to the city. I remember at the time that we weren't super impressed with the customer service, but we got what we needed, and the food was fine. We tried their regular Philly, and their chicken Philly. The chicken (at the time) was the best. During a recent trip to the city, we decided to try this spot again. We were hungry and were literally walking by it. We go to open the door facing Broad St, and it is locked. There is a sign on the door indicating it is closed. There were several people sitting outside the restaurant, so we decided to walk around and see if perhaps there was another entrance, or if any of the folk sitting there, looked like they had recently gotten food from there. It was just after lunch, so it wasn't clear to me why they were closed. I verified the hours of operation posted on Happy Cow, and moved towards the other entrance. At the same time, another individual walks through in the door, and someone comes out (with a to-go order). I asked them both if the restaurant was closed. Neither of them were sure, although the individual with the pick up thought that perhaps it was closed, but that they had allowed him in to pick up the order he had already placed. I go in the restaurant, and there is someone working behind the counter. I asked her if they were closed, she told me that they were. She explained that the chef was working a double shift, and that by law, he had to take a break. She didn't give me a clear time to expect him back. They had some prepared foods near the counter, and drinks of course (and it was a very hot day), so it was not clear to me why they would have closed the restaurant (especially when there was still someone working the counter) versus putting up a sign that indicated that the kitchen would be closed during certain hours, but drinks, prepared foods, and desserts could still be purchased during that time. Seemed like a bad business practice. We didn't go back.
