Great, cheap, and vegan, in Boardman!

Who'd have thunk it? After having enjoyed the Cleveland location of Flaming Icecube a number of times, I was pleased to check out the Boardman location.

The local area is pretty charmless: Boardman-Canfield Road is many heavily trafficked miles of strip mall. So Flaming Icecube is a great respite, and well worth the trip down from Youngstown.

The food is cheap and delicious, there is an extensive vegan menu to choose from, the people are friendly, seating was easy. What's not to like? This is a super welcome option in a surprising suburban strip mall.

I had the Western Burger, and they were out of the Daiya cheddar, but it was very tasty with the Daiya mozzarella. The side potato salad needed a little salt, but it's far better to have to add it myself than have something come out oversalted.

It's a little weird that they have a chai with honey, and note that whole wheat breads *may* have honey: it's easy enough to source both of these without honey.

Just to note, the menus at both locations have exactly one item that is listed as gluten free, and the word "gluten" doesn't appear anywhere on either website.

I'll absolutely be back!

Pros: cheap & tasty, extensive VEGAN menu, one of few vegan options nearby

My favorite vegan place

I love the Flaming Ice Cube (and am so sad to hear that they are going out of business). When I first went vegan, they were the closest vegan place - the closest vegan-friendly place, period. Which is kinda sad, considering I had to travel across state lines to get there. But it was always worth it! Their burgers were a delight, as were there cupcakes, peanut butter bars, macaroni salad, smoothies...okay, just about everything was delicious, and I always looked forward to going there when visiting my family. It's funny: the first time we were there, my now-husband and I were sharing our food, and the woman who took our order kept calling us couple goals, which I think shows just how kind and friendly everyone there was. The Flaming Ice Cube was hands-down my favorite vegan restaurant, even beating places I've been in New York City and Long Island. Maybe it's the nostalgia. Maybe it's because it was so close to home. I don't know. But I know Boardman will be missing something special when the Flaming Ice Cube closes.

Pros: All vegan, Delicious burgers, Friendly staff

Great textures — food and yarn

I had the Northsider veggie burger, which has their sautéed greens and Hungarian peppers in oil and a creamy red bell pepper sauce. So tasty! I can see why some consider that veggie patty one of the best in the country — I am now among them, and I am from California! My wife found a great bright-red cotton yarn (the only non-wool one though!?) in their shop.

Love, love, love

This place is fantastic; I've never been disappointed by anything I've gotten. Every time I visit family in PA, I make a trip there. I've even gotten non-veg friends hooked. Desserts are amazing.

Pros: great food

Love it - from out of town

We are visiting Boardman for the weekend for a reunion. I took my parents to The Flaming Ice Cube and it was great! They are not vegan, so I was able to introduce them to how great vegan food can really be! We had (and shared) the hummus veggie wrap, asian veggie wrap, trio plate (hummus, chickenless salad, & buffalo dip), and the two special soups: sweet potato peanut butter and mushroom almond. Everything was so tasty and the staff was friendly. We will be back next time we're in the area.

Pros: Great value, Tasty food , Friendly staff

Cons: No recycling

Good find for the area

There aren't many vegetarian/vegan places in the Youngstown area. This was the first we came across after we moved here, and we were very pleased. Over time, we have visited on numerous occasions, enjoying burgers and other savory food items; various smoothies; many of the extensive number of baked goods; and even some of the grocery items they sell at the register area. We have found the Hula Burger and the "Chicken" Artichoke sandwiches to be our favorites. The Buffalo Dip is also really good. And it is hard to choose just one dessert as a favorite - though the Molten Chocolate Lava cake would have to be near the top of any list. We would recommend this place hands down.

Pros: Extensive menu, Vegan oasis in area of few veggie places, Wonderful vegan baked goodies

Cons: Sometimes an issue with the service, Tendency to run out of some ingredients, Closed on Sundays

Great find in depressed Youngstown area

I have to say that I was quite impressed with finding a place like this in such a depressed area as Youngstown (Boardman). The food was great, and the help quite friendly. Every town needs a restaurant like this one.

Pros: Vegan!!!

Cons: None

Pretty Good

Well, we thought it was good but not perfect. i did like the very thick veggie burgers but i suspect that they are made of TVP which is not that good for you. Also the burger rolls are kind of like commercial rolls possibly made with wheat flour which i don't believe is good for you. i feel they can improve on the rolls to make them more natural tasting instead of commercial tasting. But maybe because of the area they are trying to make them commercial-tasting. i got the Asian Wrap that someone on here said was their favorite but i thought it was just ok. Also the Peanut Butter/Choc. cake could have been tastier, as well as the hot chocolate. Even still, when i am travelling thru Ohio again i would stop there because it's the only vegetarian restaurant around, it seems. It's good enough but could be better. They also ought to make everything gluten-free. The atmosphere is nice.

Pros: Atmosphere, Prices., They are trying.

Cons: Could taste better., Could use healthier ingredients., Serve Gluten rolls and cakes.

The desserts are to yummy and we got smoothies to go and it was like summer in a cup. I also love the store right next to it, their are all kinds of odds and ends for sale. Nice alternative to chain restaurants

The Flaming Ice Cube is a nice place to get salads, wraps, soups and more, plus a selection of teas and juices. My personal favorite is the Asian veggie wrap, served with the side of the day and some delicious plum sauce. Many selections are made fresh, and some are commercial vegetarian foods. The primary drawback for me would be the amount of sodium found in the commercial products.

Pros: Food quality, Inexpensive, Nice atmosphere

Cons: Sodium content
