Nice upscale spot - Edit
Plant forward food, nice space. Super nice staff. Higher end dining. The watermelon based appetizer was my fave. The seitan skewers also great. Delicious brownie desert

Very nice vibe - Edit
El Mundo is a beautiful restaurant, the decor is amazing and they did super upmarket food and cocktails. It’s very pricey and the food is not better that what you get from the street vendors, however the vibe and cocktails are what you pay for

Unmissable ambiance. Pretty good food. - Edit
Absolutely gorgeous place. Lovely cocktails, lovely theme. Somewhat understaffed though the servers were very hard working.
Read moreThe menu items I would have been most interested in were not available, including the ravioli, watermelon tartare, and cheese plate. I ended up getting the mushroom sandwich and the brioche based dessert and while neither were remotely bad, I would recommend not getting this pairing. I imagined that their baker might have a brioche that was a bit more like a fluffy non-vegan item but this one was fairly dense and bun-like so it’s like having two sandwiches for dinner.
Pros: Ambiance

My worst choice - Edit
Terrible experience!! Save yourself the nightmare: I booked a table to celebrate my birthday on Wednesday at 9pm, the place was empty, no music and the waiters were like we want to leave NOW. We arrived 15 minutes later and they told us that the kitchen was closing very soon, we ordered the whole menu to try.
Read moreWhen the dishes arrived in the middle of the meeting they interrupted us with the bill because the cash register was going to close; I paid and at 10:30pm they told us that we had to leave because they were going to close to fix a ceiling light. I would have liked to have been told at the time of the reservation that we could only stay in the place for 90 minutes, of course I couldn't have any hairs or anything, it was the worst choice, I regret it so much!
The food is not bad, not even close to out of this world, it is very expensive for how small the portions are and they took away the plates unfinished, it was horrible.
Incredibly, to close the disaster, they contacted me on IG the next day... to claim the tip that of course I didn't leave! I have never felt so unwelcome anywhere, we were a beautiful group of my best friends and paying discreetly was the only thing I managed to do so as not to ruin my birthday by complaining in the middle of the meal.
To this day, they have not sent me the invoice for my full ticket and when I asked for it on IG they blocked me!! I really understand why the place is always totally EMPTY. What a shame, with so many incredible gastronomic offerings in CDMX, I spent my day in the place with the least vibe and the most mistreatment that I ever thought could exist... and to top it off, it does NOT comply with its tax obligations.
Pros: The idea , The name , Mmm
Cons: The service is too formal and has zero empathy, th, It has no soul or the vibe you expect from a place, Food in portions that are too small and somewhat g

It’s okay - Edit
I went solo on a quiet Sunday evening. The service was extremely slow, as others have mentioned - 10 min to get a menu, 45 min to get an appetizer.
Read moreThe watermelon tartar was pretty good. I also tried their pizza per their recommendation and it was okay - the fermented cashew cheese was good and the rest was mostly bread and mushrooms that were a little too chewy to eat.
They seem nice and it’s a good ambiance, but I don’t think I’d go back.

Good vibe, slow service, cool food, small portions - Edit
Cool vibe, and the food was good / what you’d expect from an upscale place (very tasty, but small portions). Service was achingly slow and the food was all served somewhat lukewarm, which dampened our experience a bit. I could see how this could be a 5-star restaurant if you came here with a party of 2–4 when they were on their A-game, but for our large group it was closer to three stars if I’m being honest—only because I can tell how overwhelmed they were will I leave the fourth star in place here

Everything was delicious and very aesthetically presented. Staff was excellent and spoke English well. We will be back! I am thrilled they do not advertise vegan but the guests are delighted! A win/win for our tastebuds, health, and the planet!

Magical Dining Experience - Edit
El Mundo is a top notch place to have a full dining experience. In traveling around CDMX, I went to a number of vegan restaurants and this is by far the best. It was without question the best meal I had during my trip. The cocktails were so creative and tasty, but the thing that stands out the most was the overall experience. There was a bit of fun and magic in choosing a tarot card to decide my first drink. I got the Sun which was perfect for me that day, because I was working on a drawing of a sun. Traveling solo, I sat at the bar and the people working that night were so friendly and warm and made me feel right at home and included in the conversation. The chef/owner Rebecca is really working hard to create a special place and push forward the positive impacts of plant-based eating on environmental and human health, and do it in a way that is fun and pleasurable, in addition to being good for the world. Whether or not you eat a plant-based diet I think you will very much enjoy the food and your dining experience here. It was one of the highlights of my trip.

Truly terrible service and okay food...but not for the price - Edit
Boy did we have high expectations for this place, and after days of tacos were ready for something a little schmancy and unique. But our server was awful. And the food was fine, but for the price of (and I'm not exaggerating) 20 lovely tacos, the pate was...fine. it came with four tiny toasts, which even loaded with a crazy amount of pate couldn't come close to being enough for anyone. So we asked for more. Four more tiny toasts came out...again, not enough, but okay. And then...he charged us extra for those! Come on. Also skimpiest wine pour I've gotten in the 32 years I've been legally able to drink. The papparadelle sauce was nicely flavored but was pureed, and the noodles were not papparadelle. The mushroom sandwich was unremarkable.
