I've been to Be Leaf a few times now. This place serves build-your-own salads but also has predefined menu options too. In addition to salads, they also serve brown rice or quinoa-based bowls. The selection of vegan salad options is great and they have plenty of dressing options too!
Everything is very lightweight (read:low-calorie) but tasty. Personally I think it is pricy - BYO starts at $7.60, which includes two bases (like romaine, spinach or kale) and 4 basic ingredients (all these are vegan!). Anything more costs extra at $.50 per basic ingredient and $1.25 per premium ingredient..
Overall, this is a great place to get a healthy salad downtown. There are several options from which to choose whether it be a salad on the menu or a build your own. I typically build my own but I limit the number of "premium" toppings (e.g., avocado, beets, edamame, etc.) to one because the cost of the additional toppings is not always commensurate with the amount they actually give you. Nevertheless, it's nice to have a place near my Chicago office that offers healthy food. I’d say this is a 3.5.
