Mehh

Just had dinner here. The location is good and the interior is lovely. The service is pretty good too. I always loved Italian food as an omnivore so I really wanted to love this place. I ordered chargrilled courgette with a broad bean hummus to start which was nice, could have been lovely. Sadly the hummus had just come out of a really cold fridge and, as it was more subtle than standard hummus, it really needed to be room temperature to let the flavour through. For main I had the wholegrain risotto of the day. Now I think it's fair to say that risotto should maybe not be made vegan. It's not the same dish without the butter and cheese. It was romanesco risotto, you know that funny green cauliflower that looks like something out of star trek? Well I love that veg but it's a sturdy thing that doesn't impart it's flavour much so maybe not the best risotto ingredient (unlike say butternut squash). It wasn't unpleasant but it basically tasted of salt and pepper and not much else. I really want to think that I just chose badly as this is a lovely place, but I can't really recommend based on tonight. If I'd made that risotto as a mid-week meal myself I would've been disappointed.

Pros: Location, Interior, Service

Cons: Bland food, No red wines by the glass

Risotto is not traditionall made with either butter or cheese. What you've been eating is a bastardised version of risotto.
