More About Me
Reasons why I prefer to eat vegetarian or vegan:
For the animals, for the environment, for my health--and for other people's health too (one's dietary choices do have an impact on others' health as well!).
I joined HappyCow Members Community because:
The food! And the people who have made the excellent choice to be vegan or vegetarian.
Here are some places I've been that I liked... and places that I would like to visit one day:
Ghana, South Africa, Tanzania, India, Nepal, Colombia, Costa Rica, Singapore (for the food, of course!), Georgia (the country), Syria (2010, when I could still visit), Vietnam, and so many other countries.
Some of my favorite veg*n foods include:
big range of fruits (cherimoyas, lemon guavas, star apples, tree-ripened peaches, pineapple guavas, mangosteens, tree-ripened mangoes, etc.), oyster mushrooms, Swiss chard, kale, masala dosas and many other south Indian foods, vegan foods from Lebanon, Syria (though now their diaspora), Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Ghana, Singapore, Vietnam, Nepal, Myanmar, among others), green jackfruit, tempeh, cauliflower, some of the wild pine nuts, macadamias, dark chocolate (and raw cacao fruits, in the rare instance I come across one), etc.
Here are some books, movies, magazines, and my favorites that I would recommend to other HappyCow members:
"Guns, Germs and Steel" by Jared Diamond, "Cosmos" by Carl Sagan (both the book and the series), "Science Friday" podcast/radio show, almost any good field guide to trees and plants around the world, "The Signal and the Noise" by Nate Silver, "Freakonomics", and, yeah, a book that should transform everyone to be vegan--"The Sustainability Secret".
