More About Me

Reasons why I prefer to eat vegetarian or vegan:

My plant-based diet has basically cured me of Crohn's symptoms and allowed me to live a full life again. After becoming more active in the vegan community I started to learn about the atrocities that happen in order to produce animal products for our consumption, and came to embrace a vegan lifestyle.

I joined HappyCow Members Community because:

I would like to share my experiences with dining out in Baltimore and DC as a vegan, and utilize this resource when I'm visiting unfamiliar cities.

Here are some places I've been that I liked... and places that I would like to visit one day:

I particularly enjoyed my time in West Africa and Eastern Europe. Not many vegans there, though.

Some of my favorite veg*n foods include:

I am happy to say that after kicking animal products out of my diet my palate has SIGNIFICANTLY improved. I love and appreciate pretty much all plant-based foods. I think I have been able to sharpen my taste for bitterness and acidity, and to notice the natural sweetness in things - particularly vegetables. I don't think I'll ever like mushrooms though!

Here are some books, movies, magazines, and my favorites that I would recommend to other HappyCow members:

At this point my vegan cookbook collection is pretty massive. If you don't know where to start, I'd suggest starting with Veganomicon and Isa Does It.
