More About Me

Reasons why I prefer to eat vegetarian or vegan:

I prefer a mostly vegetarian diet for health reasons, as well as environmental and ethical reasons. I am disappointed that mainstream society neglects both vulnerable human and nonhuman animals.

I joined HappyCow Members Community because:

I originally joined because it was hard to find appropriate grocery stores or restaurants while traveling. This website & app are extensive, and international. I have benefited enormously from its development, and the contributions of its members.

Here are some places I've been that I liked... and places that I would like to visit one day:

Through the lens of Happy Cow, I have had amazing dining experiences in Eugene, OR, Spokane, WA, New York, Pittsburgh, PA, Richmond, VA, and many many more. When I am traveling I have an average of a half of a day to explore and find sustenance. The quality of sustenance often impacts the quality of my day.

Some of my favorite veg*n foods include:

I love Thai food (fried rice and fresh spring rolls) so I appreciate those listings very much. Vegan Pho is such a treat, so I appreciate Vietnamese listings as well. And I always revel in an opportunity to get an Ethiopian Vegetarian Platter or American Comfort Food.

Here are some books, movies, magazines, and my favorites that I would recommend to other HappyCow members:

Fundamental environmental and food systems writing, for me came from Rachel Carson (1962), Aldo Leopold (1949), Eric Schlosser (2001), and Michael Pollan (2006). I value a lot of food documentaries that have been made in the last 10 years, or so. I also value research on wild edibles and ethno-botany, as well as cook-books telling stories of traditional food ways and based on local, indigenous ingredients.
