well, that makes more sense. he doesn't open before 5 PM (doesn't serve lunch) and the waitresses don't arrive before 6. so he probably let you in before he was officially open, which might also explain why your meal took so long. again, it's a shame you had a bad experience, it shouldn't have been that way. better luck next time.

i guess it's because i've been there several times and i even cooked there once but i've never ever seen the chef smoking in the kitchen. only at the large table NEAR the kitchen, after the work space has been cleared of all the food and after the customers have left. it could be that you arrived after 9:30 (when the kitchen closes) and that he decided to make a meal for you and decided to sit down while you were still eating. but even then i cannot imagine him lighting up a cigarette before you leave, or at least not asking if you are ok with it. but who knows, i wasn't there. but when you said that you also saw the waitress smoking in the kitchen that caught my attention because none of the waitresses there smoke, so that was the dead give-away that you weren't telling the truth. otherwise i wouldn't have said anything.

Hey aisawesome, if you want to bash a place then please use valid criticism that can be verified, but don't make things up to harm the restaurant. I've been to the Vliegende Schotel several times and the chef only smokes after work. I've never actually seen him light up a cigarette in the kitchen or while customers are still seated. If you didn't enjoy your meal that sucks but I agree with the chef that you should have complained on location. I guess some people are never satisfied!
