About:
I read Pete Singer's "Animal Liberation" when 19, when I first decided to go vegan. It was a rocky road when old (mistaken) beliefs about having to balance amino acids were widely believed, so for a period of about 8 years I went back to eating chicken and dairy, but then a vegan friend sent me John Robbins "Food Revolution." I've been vegan since then. I feel like asking my so-called animal loving friends "if you truly love animals why are you eating them?"

More About Me

Reasons why I prefer to eat vegetarian or vegan:

I have been a huge animal lover since birth. I just wish I would have made the connection sooner, like some children I've seen in videos on the net. When someone handed me Animal Liberation by Pete Singer at age 19 I finally made the connection. Unfortunately I believed a lot of the old wives tales regarding balancing amino acids. After a while I decided it was too difficult and went back to eating chicken and fish. While married my husband put a lot of pressure on me in terms of what we ate. After my divorce. A friend sent me the book Food Revolution by John Robbins. That did the trick – and now I've been a vegan for 30 years.

I joined HappyCow Members Community because:

I got the smartphone app and found it so useful, and I also decided I wanted to write reviews.

Here are some places I've been that I liked... and places that I would like to visit one day:

Los Angeles is wonderful for vegans. Lots of choice/great restaurants. I would love to travel to Europe, but prohibitive due to disability.

Some of my favorite veg*n foods include:

Most all of it!

Here are some books, movies, magazines, and my favorites that I would recommend to other HappyCow members:

Food Revolution by John Robbins, Forks over Knives, the Future of Food (last two documentaries). Animal Liberation by Pete Singer.
