More About Me

Reasons why I prefer to eat vegetarian or vegan:

I chose to eat vegan. I like to know what's in the food that's on my plate, and that I could grow it myself, if I so chose to. Plus, I don't like to contribute to the insanity of The Market and I don't enjoy causing pain to animals.

I joined HappyCow Members Community because:

searching for nearby vegans, places to graze, things to do, sources of local nourishment - intellectual, edible, etc. and out of curiosity.

Here are some places I've been that I liked... and places that I would like to visit one day:

I don't do well in the heat. I like a chilly, moody place with grotty old places to stay. Scotland was nice. I lived in Seattle in the 80's, which was the time to live there. I enjoyed Paris, watching the little dogs trotting in the stores and the old men pissing in the streets early in the morning. I would like to visit Transylvania, Amsterdam, Norway.

Some of my favorite veg*n foods include:

I found out I love tempeh marinated in a mustard marinade, love kiwi fruit - which was a big deal to even try. I enjoy eating CHAO spicy and original "cheese" melted into a sandwich or over rice, in a burrito. I enjoy having a freshly prepared bowl of sprouted short-grain and sweet brown rice mixed together. I'll not stop eating homemade soy yogurt mixed with cinnamon and a bit of Grade B maple syrup over 365 Protein & Fiber Flakes & Clusters cereal or Ezekiel 4:9 Golden Flax cereal.

Here are some books, movies, magazines, and my favorites that I would recommend to other HappyCow members:

Cookbooks: Thug Cookbook, At Home in the Whole Food Kitchen, The Vegiterranean Diet,The Bread Lover's Bread Machine Cookbook, Raw Food - A Complete Gd. for Every Meal of the Day. Watch mainly Classic films, esp. HITCHCOCK, Tracy/Hepburn, Noir, Suspense, Foreign - Silents (The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Faust, The Golem, Beauty and the Beast), contemporary from Norway (Ragnarok a favorite), Spain - "The Blind Dead" collection; Jean Renoir, Ingmar Bergman, Fellini - La Dolce Vita, watched along with Elsa & Fred (starring Shirley MacLaine & Christopher Plummer), Love Woody Allen mostly; Atypical stuff: The Driver's Seat (Liz Taylor), The Manipulator (Mickey Rooney - mondo bizarro terrifying), Lars von Trier's Medea, Hal Hartley - Trust, Simple Men; Atom Egoyan (esp. Ararat, Exotica), just numerous well-written, finely acted, you know...no slasher/gore fests. Classic Horror, old British witchcraft/horror (Village of the Damned, Burn Witch, Burn, City of the Dead, etc.) Books. Lots of nonfiction - favorites right now: "Zen Confidential: Confessions of a Wayward Monk" by Shozan Jack Haubner - a laugh riot. "The Art of Living Consciously" by Nathaniel Branden, "Epic Tomatoes" by Craig LeHoullier. "May I be FRANK" by Frank Ferrante. "Nature Aquarium World" by Takashi Amano. Anything written by Shirley Jackson: short story collections, The Lottery, The Haunting...just one of the great American writers. FICTION: classic lit., some Stephen King, all over the map. Magazines: Shambhala Sun. Peruse the stacks in bookstores, grocery markets for gardening, recipes, style, art, writing.
