About:
Hello! You may call me Peachy if you're so inclined. I was a vegetarian since I was 3 years old (yup, that number is correct!) and I started my vegan journey on Feb. 15, 2016. There has been struggles, and I'm sure there always will be, but so long as being a vegan means making a difference in the world and helps fight animal cruelty, I will endure!

More About Me

Reasons why I prefer to eat vegetarian or vegan:

The main reason why I made the switch from vegetarian to vegan was to help fight animal cruelty. For as long as I can remember, chickens and cows have been favorite animals of mine. They're such beautiful and intelligent creatures! So when a friend of mine went vegan, I got curious. I had always thought that vegans were extremists, that they were getting all hopped up over nothing. Once my friend made the switch though, it inspired me to look into why vegans vegan. What I found was more than enough to convince me. If I claimed to love chickens and cows as much as I do, why would I continue to contribute to their suffering? I could no longer claim ignorance. Once I made the commitment, I felt so much better in both body and mind. I have eaten healthier as a vegan than I ever had as a vegetarian, and I can feel it! It's been a great journey so far.

I joined HappyCow Members Community because:

I want to contribute to the people of Upstate New York (and visitors as well) by providing reviews of restaurants! To people who don't know much about NY, New York State is so much more than NYC. A lot of New York State is very county. Farms and mountains as far as the eye can see. This also means that vegan fare can be hard to come by. You have to travel to a decent sized city to find a few restaurants that have one or two vegan dishes on a menu, and you have to travel even further to find a fully vegan menu. Sure upstate NY isn't totally deprived of vegan fare, but it's a struggle, and I want to make it less of a struggle for my fellow vegans!

Here are some places I've been that I liked... and places that I would like to visit one day:

I've been many places, but my favs would have to be Indiana, Florida, and California! I'd love to visit Colorado some day soon! Maybe China some day too.

Some of my favorite veg*n foods include:

Daiya cheese and nutritional yeast are lifesavers for a now reformed cheeseaholic. Almond milk and Miyoko Schinner's vegan butter are as well! Now I just need to find or invent a delicious vegan sour cream and I'll be golden! All time favorites: sweet pickles, potato chips, berry pies, pasta, fruit leathers, and so much more!

Here are some books, movies, magazines, and my favorites that I would recommend to other HappyCow members:

Well, I don't really have any vegan related books, movies or magazines to recommend, but I will say that Studio Ghibli movies are amazing and the old Whose Line Is It Anyway with Drew Carey is comedy gold! ;)
