Reasons why I prefer to eat vegetarian or vegan:

Been Vegetarian since March 2001 and Vegan since July 2009 Growing up spending my summers on my grandparents' farm, I used to play with the pigs but never really undersood what was going to happen when they 'went off to market'. In 2001 I was backpacking in Chile and ended up spending 3 days on the cargo ferry between Puerto Natales and Puerto Montt. The cows and sheep in containers on the lower deck of that ferry were so crammed in they could not move or lie down. They did not have anything to eat or drink for 3 days and by the 3rd day could no longer even raise their heads. I vowed to have nothing to do with that suffering ever again. I wanted to go vegan but was afraid (after being brainwashed as we all were by the government-published food guides and all the advertisements saying we needed meat and milk for protein and calcium). After doing much research - and then having a medical crisis in July 2009 (the cardiac unit at the hospital fed us vegan meals), I decided to make the change.
