More About Me
Reasons why I prefer to eat vegetarian or vegan:
I want to have nothing to do with animal suffering! It hurts so much were I to do harm to any innocent being that is often completely benign, positively charming and mostly friendly. When I see a piece of animal flesh I can literally see the fear in the animal's eyes and hear his/her frantic, pitiful screams! Killing an animal, whether it's a mosquito or a giraffe, is murder, pure and simple. We are ignorant and we often don't even know it. And we pass on our ignorance, generation after generation! That's the tragedy that brought so much suffering to sentient beings.
I joined HappyCow Members Community because:
This is a great idea. To try out vegan friendly places that provide vegan fare no matter how few and commenting on them helps fellow vegans choose restaurants in their immediate neighbourhoods.
Here are some places I've been that I liked... and places that I would like to visit one day:
I can't say I want to revisit restaurants that made "fantastic" vegan food because most of these are not my everyday fare. I always go back to places serving down to earth foods, perhaps because of one or two items that they make very well. Places I'd like to revisit but stay for some extended time would be parts of India and Tibet.
Some of my favorite veg*n foods include:
I love, and need, food, but am particular only with food that's not healthful or prepared without focus. I try to consume as wide a variety of plant foods as possible and to make them taste good. So I can't say I have favourite items.
Here are some books, movies, magazines, and my favorites that I would recommend to other HappyCow members:
Books that input wisdom and drive out our ignorance: All books by Eknath Easwaran. Books by David Hawkins. "Transcription of Dharma Talks" by Thich Nhat Hanh. "Come Be My Light" by Mother Teresa "Fat Chance: Beating the Odds against Sugar" by Robert Lustig "What makes you NOT a Buddhist" by Khyentse Podcasts of importance: "The Compassionate Cooks" by Colleen Patrick-Goudreau Podcasts by Dr. John McDougall Podcasts by Thich Nhat Hanh.
