More About Me
Reasons why I prefer to eat vegetarian or vegan:
I became a vegetarian for health reasons. I believe that the China Study demonstrated that reducing or eliminating meat from your diet does lead to a longer life. Now, however, I really do it because of a belief (probably incorrect) that if people don't kill animals, they will be less likely to kill other humans. In my travels, I also see the effects of global warming, particularly in the loss of coral reefs. I think that being a vegetarian helps with this.
I joined HappyCow Members Community because:
I've been a member for a while. For me, finding new vegetarian restaurants has become something like a game. When I see a restaurant listed that has no reviews, I often take the challenge of trying to find it. Not always easy, but generally a lot of fun. And then, when you just spot a place on the street that isn't listed yet, well that's a rush. Have to try it right away. I really appreciate the service that Happy Cow offers and feel good about contributing.
Here are some places I've been that I liked... and places that I would like to visit one day:
Switzerland (worked there for four years), Nice, Berlin, Athens, York, Budapest (great baths, awful vegetarian), Prague, Cinque Terre, Istanbul, Hawaii, Bali, Bangkok, Chiangmai, Ko Payam, Penang (great vegetarian), Kunming, Hanoi, Luang Prabang, Phuket Vegetarian Festival, Puerto Escondido. Am planning to visit Nepal and India later this year. Then, the rest of the world.
Some of my favorite veg*n foods include:
Seitan (make my own), tofu (including the many varieties found in China like stinky tofu and tofu skins), avocado, coconut, peanuts and cashews, mock meats (I know some folks don't like them but I do), curries (not too hot), gado-gado, pad thai. I do not like onions, garlic, or bell peppers.
Here are some books, movies, magazines, and my favorites that I would recommend to other HappyCow members:
