More About Me

Reasons why I prefer to eat vegetarian or vegan:

I have always been vegetarian; my family is Jain and I grew up as a strong believer in non-violence and compassion towards all beings. I made the move to veganism after reading the Book of Compassion in 2007/2008 and learning about modern dairy farming practices. I had no idea of the horrors endured by cows to produce milk for human consumption.

I joined HappyCow Members Community because:

I love travelling and I love vegan food...! I had used happy cow for some time prior to joining the community, especially during my travels in South America, and after travelling more, wanted to start posting my own reviews.

Here are some places I've been that I liked... and places that I would like to visit one day:

So many! Loved Otavalo, Ecuador; Rurrenabaque (the rainforest), Bolivia; Salvador, Brazil; Isla Mujeres, Mexico; Chiang Mai, Thailand; Borneo; different parts of India (Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Auroville, Dharamsala); Hong Kong; Berlin, Germany. I would like to visit Vietnam, the Phillipines, Nepal, Kashmir, South Korea, Costa Rica, Cuba, Venezuela, Colombia, other parts of Brazil

Some of my favorite veg*n foods include:

Tofu, mushrooms (all types), wood ear, green pepper, ladyfingers, aubergine, green beans, daal, tempeh, coconut milk, hazelnuts, almonds, rice, kway teao noodles, quinoa, black/pinto/kidney beans, papaya, bananas

Here are some books, movies, magazines, and my favorites that I would recommend to other HappyCow members:

Hi Ashni

Do consider joining Volentia too, and why not join us for a London event :-)

Take care

Hi Ashni,

Thanks for your message about China. A little note with some Chinese veg phrases helped me out too. I speak Mandarin now so it wouldn't be such a challenge. But I imagine the way they treat animals over there would make things difficult for me.
So I've added you to the member highlight. Great to see your beautiful face attached to your profile - thanks!
Let me know if you have any ideas or feedback on the site.
peace, eric

Hi Ashni,

Thanks for your message. I'd love to hear more how it was traveling around China as a vegan. Traveling in China is really what pushed me to become vegan, but that was way back in 1989! Hopefully things are better there now and easier for veg*ns.
If you upload a personal avatar photo I'd like to add you to the HappyCow featured member highlight on the homepage. Great that you've reviewed so many places!
Peace, eric
