Reasons why I prefer to eat vegetarian or vegan:

So many reasons to be vegan - avoiding cruelty to animals, not wasting so much precious grain and water and being more healthy are the main ones.

I joined HappyCow Members Community because:

Happy Cow has been a great help when I travel and need to know where the veg restaurants are.

Here are some places I've been that I liked... and places that I would like to visit one day:

I have travelled a lot in Asia and mostly it's very veg-friendly. I love Vietnam, Laos and Thailand and some of the best food I have ever eaten was in Vietnam. I also love Japan but it's trickier to avoid fish there although meat-free is easy. I've lived in China for 18 years and there has been an explosion in veg restaurants, Beijing now has 22!

I love raw Vietnamese spring rolls, broccoli, tofu, dhal and chapattis.

I love cookbooks, I read them almost like novels. I especially like vegan ones as I don't have to make conversions. My favourites recently are 125 Best Vegan Recipes by Maxine Chuck and Beth Gurney (best brownie recipe ever) and Vegan With a Vengeance by Isa Chandra Moskowitz (amazing chocolate chip cookie recipe).
