About:
I pursue ideas. A Secular Humanist beer loving social democrat vegetarian radical pedagogue. Current food obsession; Meridian peanut butter with vegan chocolate spread and tesco organic brown rice cakes, with a decaf soya coffee, hippie much :) Current idea obsession - the positive psychosocial benefits of religion and how this can be replicated for non-religious communities. From Youghal, living in Cork 8 years now. Graduated from U.C.C. with two degrees, a Bachelor in Applied Psychology in 2008 and a Joint Bachelor of Arts in English and Mathematical Studies. Both 1st class honours,I'm quite proud of that fact :) The whole point of it - trying to become the coolest, most innovative teacher ever!! So what did I learn about psychology... - That I know very little about psychology - how to to work the academic system. - how to read scientific articles. - A teeny weeny bit about the philosophy of science. - A teeny weeny bit about research methdology. - how much, is too much when it comes to caffeine. - A bit about positive youth development in youth organised activities I took a year out after my degree to "just live". What did I learn - I'm not interested in the Youth Work per se, what I am interested in, is bringing some of the experiential and participatory learning styles characteristic of the informal youth work sector into the domain of the formal education system (i.e. schools) - The most important thing is to be happy in who you are, what your doing and how your living. - Life is about learning, learning from the ups, the downs and the teachers that come in and out of your life. - I love Cork (bought the t-shirt, in fact bought 5 (they we're on offer) and then gave em as presents). - I'm not interested in going into counselling right now, maybe latter, it's not my time yet, maybe it never will be, but right now education (or learning facilitation as I like to call it) is for me. What I've learned from my second undergrad so far... how to drink a bit more sensibly To periodically take some time out for myself, I'm a socialable guy but I need time to myself sometimes to do some exploring. - Learned to lose my faith, or embrace reason as they say. Currently working on - getting through the H.Dip while holding down a part time job.
