Leather in Cars? I have just tried to be environmentally friendly and buy a Plug-in Prius car but have discovered that the only seat options are leather or cloth with leather bolsters! I had to say no and walk out of the showroom. It's also been a problem in the past when if you want a higher specification model you find that they come with a leather steering wheel. Does anyone else have any experience of this and has anyone ever had success getting their car supplied with a non-leather version or do you turn a blind eye? Post Date: 11/12/16, Replies: 6
Thanksgiving This year, Thanksgiving is being scheduled at my house. We are going to do a potluck style, but I feel awful that my family who will be coming over is not vegan, and they are bringing a turkey. At home, my husband, my daughter and I are vegans. I don't know how to handle this situation. It is very hard for me, even though my son is not a vegan who lives at home with me. Just seeing a dead animal at my house, at the table will be hard for me. Please any suggestions. Post Date: 11/12/16, Replies: 2
Birthday in Melbourne! Needing advices :) I have to be in Melbourne on my birthday and because it's only one night I don't want to risk it going to a bad place. I am vegan and I refused to eat a tasteless salad on my day, I would love a nice meal and a tasty piece of vegan cake :D (and a glass of course) . The best would be a place with good atmosphere, maybe some music or at least friendly staff to have a nice evening with my colleagues. Thank you so much in advance ! Post Date: 11/09/16, Replies: 1

Vegetarian restaurant claimin their veggie My HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. I want you (the customers/fellow vegans/veggies) to share and be aware of this. There is a new friendly "vegan/veggie" restaurant in town LAKAZ MAMAN in southampton 1. THE VEGGIE OPTION is NOT VEGETARIAN! They use oyster sauce (made out of oysters not the mushroom), thus not vegan/or/ vegetarian. A lot of their dishes such as the vegetarian magic bowl use this. SELLING FOOD AND CLAIMING ITS VEGAN/VEGGIE WHEN ITS NOT IS WRONG. 2. There is picture evidence Owner stating to an employee that they believe that giving staff their tips is not compulsory Tips are a gift to the staff not the owners! If you have been to the venue you would be aware how small spaces the staff have to work and how over worked they are. Lets write to them if you expected more of your local businesses and master chef. They shouldn't be advertising as veggie friendly telling customers that food is veggie when its not. MacDonald Potato Chips-iffy I don't know about other countries, but in Australia, where I live, all the MacDonald Takeaway joints serve fried potato chips pre-treated with animal fat. Be on the look-out if you are a patron of this, otherwise, popular restaurant brand. Love Post Date: 10/04/16, Replies: 1

Vegan Newbie Hi all, I joined here because it seems to be the most active forum. I've only been vegan for about four months, but it's the best life change I've made. I feel physically and mentally healthier, and it feels great knowing that every meal I eat contributes to the mending of this world. I'm very lucky to live in a very vegan-friendly city and community as well, it's been a great influence for persuading others into becoming vegan as well. I hope to meet more people and gain a little more knowledge here! Post Date: 09/25/16, Replies: 3

Just Joined Hello everyone, I just joined today. Reason being is I need help with becoming more vegetarian. I say more because last time I just launched into being vegan and failed horribly. I was not prepared, so this time I want to go slow. What has brought this up is that, aside from meat being cruel, my body has seemingly decided that it does not like meat. I used to be a daily meat eater (I know, horrible,) but now just a bite makes me ill. Obviously I cannot continue with my current diet. So my main problem is that I hate most vegetables and tofu. I have issues with anemia (non serious, caused by folic acid deficiency) caused by my hatred of vegetables. I have tried, I really have, to get used to vegetables, but something about them my body rejects. So what are some things I could try that would fit my needs? Hate veggies and tofu, no food allergies, on a very tight budget. Thanks in advance. Post Date: 09/20/16, Replies: 3
Cruelty Free Shampoo/Body Wash After ten yrs of being vegetarian, I've decided to make the change to vegan! Household items & cosmetics being cruel free I don't have an issue with- I'm not picky; the whole switch has actually been easier than I thought it was going to be; especially with little support from my family. Anyway, I have color treated hair, so I do need a color treated shampoo that does not test on animals.. any suggestions? (I'm currently using Garnier Fructis which from my understanding, does test on animals) For body wash, my skin is insanely sensitive so switching body washes has me a bit worried. I'm currently using Vagisil Intimate Body Wash, so do you ladies know of any similar products that are cruel free? Again, like the shampoo I'm pretty sure they test on animals as well. Thanks in advance for the help, it's much appreciated! Tiffany Post Date: 09/18/16, Replies: 4
Coin-operated Veganism I spotted a "Green Rendezvous" vending machine last week at St Pancras Railway Station whilst waiting for the Eurostar train to Brussels. This machine was in the inner-waiting area for the train on the other side of check-in/customs. I must admit that I had already purchased sandwiches in the main terminus so did not use the machine but I was intrigued by the slogans of “Handmade, Organic. High Proteins, Vegan, Vegetarian, Gluten Free, Sustainable, Ecofriendly and Free Range.” I considered upgrading my existing lunch but didn’t quite fancy the sight of a salad in a jar. It just didn’t look that tempting – and how long had it been in the jar? And I wasn’t convinced that such a delivery method could really be called “Sustainable” or “Ecofriendly” using plastic jars to retail salad. During my 40 minutes waiting to board the train a lot of people strolled up to the machine, some even dug into their pockets for change. However, for one reason or another all walked away and the vending machine was not used once. On this basis I assume this business model is flawed. Has anybody else had experience of the Green Rendez-Vous? Post Date: 09/15/16, Replies: 0

Moral Mandate of Not Eating Animals Do you think that abstaining from eating meat (I am a vegan but will leave out milk and eggs here) is an objective moral truth, or do you think that it is a personal truth? (For example we can say that not killing humans for our appetites is an objective moral truth, whereas feeling called to become an artist is a personal truth) I know that for myself, I cannot physically eat flesh because to do so is a sin from a deep part within me. To hate non-meat eaters is to destroy the vegan ideal of compassion. Yet to be loose on a deep personal conviction by saying what will be will be in regards to others eating meat, is also in a sense to take away from your own convictions. So what do you think--is abstaining from meat an objective moral truth, or is it a personal path that people can choose to better themselves? Any thoughts welcome. Post Date: 09/06/16, Replies: 5

Do NOT buy Bic, 3M, and Scotch! These companies all test on animals! And they are very common household products. For example, Bic pens and lighters, and 3M tape and bubble mailers. For pens, buy Pilot instead. They do not test on animals AND all of their products are free of animal ingredients, making them completely vegan! Pilot pens are very easy to find in stores, and they even make permanent markers, but I have never seen their markers in stores so you might have to order them online. Still better than Sharpies, because Sharpies have animal ingredients (animal derived pigment)! For tape, and bubble mailers and packing materials, I'm not completely sure, but I have found no evidence of Duck testing on animals. I am not positive if their stuff is all vegan, but at least its better than supporting 3M and Scotch, because 3M and Scotch test on animals! So unless someone has better info, I suggest Duck for mailers and tape. And glue! Gorilla Glue and Elmer's are both vegan! No animal testing or ingredients! The BAD: Bic 3M Scotch Sharpie The GOOD: Pilot Duck Gorilla Glue Elmer's Post Date: 08/18/16, Replies: 20

Two life changing decisions Here's my own experience. I was 50lbs overweight scary blood tests etc etc...So I decided to go meatless and then vegetarian...This concurrently affirmed by love of the animal rights movement, Two life changing decisions on the journey for me: 1. I found a personal physician who is a vegan MD ! I can't recommend this change enough - I feel empowered and am learning so much about diet as medicine...In all honesty: I look forward when I have my annual physical 2. I volunteer at animal sanctuary. Seeing how beautiful and gentle cows, goats pigs and the like in open space is profound...The people who run the sanctuary are incredible too and I feel blessed that I can take part in a few hours of work on the farm when I can...In all honesty, this is really powerful therapy for me to be with animals in a place of such compassion, care, and warmth.. In any event, I strongly recommend both additions to your life, if possible !!! Post Date: 08/15/16, Replies: 6
The most violent animal I'm tired of the worn-out excuse of meat-eaters that humans are no less violent than the other animals. "All animals have 'enemies' or at least creatures that they fear in the natural world, and some predators are feared by many. Human, however, are an enemy to all living things, despite the fact that many of us claim to love nature and even a few selected species." -from one of my books Humans kill billions of non-human animals daily - in chemicalized factory farming, in research labs, by polluting the environment and clear-cutting forests...with barely a second thought about those lives. And yet we somehow convince ourselves that we're the most intelligent, most thoughtful and most deserving of all species. Post Date: 08/15/16, Replies: 6
