In fact, the Swiss seem to be remarkably understanding of food needs. When you ask for vegan (and in our case, gluten free as well), they understand, they don't treat you like a freak (as would happen here in Belgium) and make a big effort. We recently stayed in the 'Alexander Tödiblick' hotel in Braunwald, which routinely offers vegetarian food but they served us fantastic vegan food. This is the second such experience, so I conclude that this is a great country for vegans to visit.
Posted by Dorian at 01/26/10 05:25:23The Swiss have amazing food if you know where to look. In the city of St. Gallen east of Zurich there are four health food stores that sell vegan, gluten-free and other specialty foods plus four other grocery stores that sell natural and organic food options. See: www.travelingnaturally.com/gegswitz.htm for a map of the stores in St. Gallen. Also on the Blog: travelingnaturally.blogspot.com you can find information about other organic places in Switzerland.
