| Pulse expert needed for my black beans I have been making black beans from cans for some time now and they usually turn out extremely well. I slow cook them for 5-6 hours with sauted onion, garlic, cumin and a little cayenne. By this method they have an incredibly rich, addictive and satisfying taste. Recently I tried making them from soaked dried beans but they didn't turn out nearly as well. I cooked them for much longer period - until they were mush - but they never quite lost that slightly bitter, pasty taste of undercooked beans. Are there any pulse experts who can help? | Home Made Hemp Milk I've been making hemp milk for quite some time now and here is the recipe for it. Note: you will need a very powerful blender such as a Vita-Mix for this recipe. Also a large bowl and milk filter bags. You can get the bags online if you do a search for them. 1 cup hulled hemp seeds 7 cups of filtered water vanilla extract raw honey or sweetener to taste pinch of sea salt Fill your blender with the 7 cups of water. Add the hemp seed, vanilla and sweetener. Blend until all the seeds are broken up. When that is done let it sit for a few minutes, then blend again. Filter through two milk bags into a large bowl. Put into a glass container. The container should have a tight fitting lid because you have to shake the milk up before using. Also be aware, this goes bad very quickly so use it up within two or three days. Bon Appetit! Post Date: 06/09/10, Replies: 4 | ||

| quick desert/snack/breakfast recipie this is something i tried today and it was delicious :]. but a little messy; I'm still working out details in the recipe such as time in the microwave. these are estimates. this is just a quick and fun idea. Honey Peanut Butter Banana Burrito *wow thats a tongue twister* Ingredients: Peanut Butter *for protein* Flour Tortilla (not sure about the ingredients as far as vegans are concerned! sorry!) Banana *for potassium* Honey *for anti-oxidants* (vegans could use syrup in place of this) Directions: heat the tortilla for about 20 seconds in the microwave to warm it up. then spread some peanut butter *i use smooth but crunch could work* on the tortilla. since it was heated it will spread fairly easily. Then drizzle on some honey and put back in the microwave for 11 more seconds. Next slice part of a banana into it; wrap it up; and enjoy :]. It is quite possible one of the most delicious things I've ever had. though its kind of runny and messy; so keep some napkins at hand :]. Post Date: 04/12/10, Replies: 1 | ||
| "Pulled" Seitan My Seitan is pretty decent; I use Vital Gluten (instead of kneading/rinsing flour) and season the dough with Garlic powder, onion powder, Paprika, Molasses, Aminos, salt and pepper. I makes a good balance. I haven't yet figured out how to "pull it" or give it the pulled "pork" texture we find in some commercial brands. The cuts with the knife are too clean and don't allow the Seitan to hold the sauce; it also gets slippery and falls from the sandwich all over the plate. It seems to be too elastic to allow me to pull and shred with a fork. Do you folks know a way? Post Date: 03/26/10, Replies: 0 | ||

| My First Blog Hey all, I have just recently started my very first blog and would love to have some more people from the vegan/veggie and well anyone world support the blog. The blog is going to be all about trying to transfer a popular non-vegan cookbook into a vegan book. The book that was voted on via the blog is Naked Chef, by Jamie Oliver. Which is actually great, since it starts off pretty easy and then gets pretty difficult as the book moves on. I also think this book is great because of the choice of ingredients Jamie uses. Well thanks a lot for supporting even if you just take a quick peek. Projectveg: projectveg.wordpress.com/ Post Date: 01/31/10, Replies: 0 | ||

| Christmas menu recipe ideas I am having a small Xmas dinner prior to the big day and am in need interesting menu ideas. Since I am eastern european I thought it would be a nice change to offer a traditional american/canadian xmas meal. Only problem is, what do I serve? I need ideas for a menu that would be interesting and appealing to the senses. I am not too sure about bird substitutes and I think some of the diners would not appreciate an imitation turkey, so I need something different... if anybody has any ideas please offer them to the forum. And I hope I won't entice too many comments about Christmas and the slaughter of turkeys, etc. I hope there can be a nice exchange of recipe ideas. Thank you. Post Date: 12/16/09, Replies: 8 | ||

| vegetarian tuna ? Hello All, My b-friend went veggie (lacto ovo) to join me almost two years ago. He says he doesn't really miss meat; but does miss his tuna salad sandwiches. I was happy to see that the featured food company, May Wah, has a veggie substitute; but sad to find out they won't deliver to canada. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you in advance. | Homemade Soymilk I just wanted to let everyone know that I found a really easy way to make soymilk at home without one of those expensive automatic machines. I got what is called a "nut milk bag" for $5 at the health food store, soak the beans all day (or night), blend them with water (amount of beans X 2), and then pour it into nut milk bag. All you have to do is squeeze the soymilk right out of it, and the beans stay in the bag. Takes me about 5 minutes, and simple as pie. It also works great for almond milk, sunflower milk, etc. Post Date: 11/05/09, Replies: 3 | ||
| Kumquats and Surinam Cherries? Here is my problem: I have 2 trees absolutely loaded with kumquats, and I can't seem to find any good way to use lots of them up before they fall on the ground. I sell some of them to the local health food store, but there isn't a huge demand for these little guys. I also have a tree literally dripping with Suriname Cherries. (a lot different than sweet cherries) I tried making jam out of them, but it tasted awful! Does anybody have any good ideas for how I can use these fruits before they all just rot on the ground? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, even if you haven't actually tried them yourself! Post Date: 11/02/09, Replies: 0 |
