on vitamix Have you heard of the saying that you shouldn't tightly hold down the jar because letting it wiggle actually lessens the stress on the motor? why is this?
Always hold it down and if you were to just let it really wiggle around especially when I am furiously plunging the tamper

I have definitely heard that from the gentleman I bought it from, though I don't know why. I imagine it has something to do with the strength behind the motor, perhaps it needs room to "breath".

I read the Use and Care Manual that came with mine and I didn't see anywhere that said not to hold the jar. I don't know why you would though, I've never found the need. It will shut off automatically if it over-heats.
