Restaurant Sort Order on City Page
Which of the following "default" sort arrangements of the City page Restaurant Listings you feel is the easiest way to read and makes most sense? (Default is the setup that every visitor sees initially, before s/he chooses to sort the page differently).
1. By Alphabetical: A to Z, then Veg-friendly (not 100% veg) (previous method)
2: By Veg Status: Vegan, then Vegetarian, then Veg-friendly (not 100% veg) (current method)
3. By Rating: from highest rating listing first
Please help us choose the most suitable "Default" setting. You can always then choose to sort the listings in the other orders you prefer.

Does HC underrepresent vegfriendly venues?
Health food store - We will add it just as soon as possible.
I found a Thai restaurant in Folsom, CA yesterday with a separate vegan-friendly dinner menu with over 30 items, and about 15 items on a separate veg lunch menu. I think it's important to have this restaurant to put Folsom on the map, otherwise vegans traveling thru here have zero options. But I ran into the below policy. Folsom is a mainstream city that does not have any pure vegetarian restaurants, nor health food stores (other than ones selling only vitamins), nor farmers' markets that I know of. A vegan traveling thru Folsom might love to know about this restaurant, but I can't seem to get it listed b/c of the policy below, which I think does a disservice to travelers.
I think that when one does a search for "100% vegetarian restaurants" for a particular city, they should simply get a "no match found" message. Or a "no match found, but this city has at least one listing for a veg-friendly restaurant."
"Also note regarding Veg-friendly but Not 100% Vegetarian:
In order to add a new US city to the HappyCow website, there needs to be a pure vegetarian restaurant OR a health food store in that city also, in order for us to add veg-friendly/not 100% veg places. Otherwise, when a visitors chooses the "Show 100% vegetarian only" default, the newly created city will not show, and the website will lead the visitor to an ERROR page ("this page does not exist... there are no vegetarian restaurants in this city")."

Recently i had lunch somewhere where they had a happycow sticker on the window with their star rating on it. Was it self made, or an official happycow thing?
If the latter, how could i get one for my shop?

Site Request: Countries by veg*n density
I know that HappyCow has a list of the top-rated veg*n restaurants in the world, but I think it would be interesting to see a list of countries/provinces/etc. ranked by veg*n density. Here's what I know:
* HappyCow has a list of veg*n restaurants
* It shouldn't be too hard to find the area of a country/province/state/etc.
* So, you could create a feature that allows you to see a list of countries/provinces/states, etc. sorted by veg*n restaurants/km^2.
I feel like this would not just be cool, but could help people who want to travel somewhere, but are not sure where. They can look at that list, and then see where has the most/least options per km^2.

Site Suggestion: Taiwan is not an SAR
While searching for Hong Kong, I just discovered Taiwan is listed under the heading, "Special Administrative Regions". This is totally incorrect. While the status of Taiwan may be disputed, it has never been claimed to be one of China's Special Administrative Regions (SAR) - of course not by Taiwan, but also not by PRC. The webpage of PRC's Department of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs states that it:
"develops diplomatic policies concerning the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), Macao SAR and Taiwan" (www.fmprc.gov.cn/mfa_eng/wjb_663304/zzjg_663340/gats_665294/)
Note that it does not use Taiwan SAR.
Suggestion: Remove Taiwan from that section. Not only is it propagating incorrect info, it can be viewed as a gesture by Happy Cow that is offensive (imposing its own resolution of the dispute), terribly ignorant of the area it is discussing, and misleading to readers.
Taiwan is already listed under Asia. If the purpose is to provide a link for people searching for Taiwan under China, then simply label it as such, for example: "Looking for Taiwan (R.O.C)? Click here". That way Happy Cow does not appear to be partisan in the dispute.

New location-setting-procedure not works.
The new location-setting-procedure for registration of new restaurants does not work properly. After setting the marker on a place on the map, the system automatically moves the marker (to an other street). So for example for the restaurant "Casa Natural Lugervit" in El Vigia, Venezuela.

Please Bring Back Chat
Many people are voicing their sorrow that the chat room has disappeared from Happy Cow. The chat room was a fantastic avenue for vegans and vegetarians to share their experiences, recipes, and simply a place for people who don't have many others who share their values to commiserate. It was a valuable resource for new vegans and vegetarians to get real-time information and support. It would be a shame to see it not return.

Listings for transport operators
I was wondering if it is possible to add a train/plane/ship company on HappyCow? SJ, the Swedish state railways, now have vegan breakfasts and hot lunches and dinners in their buffets, and these can be ordered in advance when buying the ticket in advance to guarantee there will be enough in stock. The German national rail company has also advertised recently that they are introducing a vegan menu. I thought this could be useful for international travellers, but wasn't sure how to add this to HappyCow. What do you think? :)

Reviews without a Rating
We've had many requests to allow members to rate a listing without adding a review.
In our discussions so far it seems like a bad idea since there is no accountability, and could easily hurt a restaurant's business without offering any feedback to owners who care to improve.
Would be great to get your ideas / suggestions regarding this as well here in this thread.

- ability to enlarge and zoom into photos (especially handy when someone has uploaded a photo of a menu, namecard or map). some websites do it by showing the enlarged version on a pop-up window.
- ability to edit/delete photos after posting - mistakes do happen, some of which are hardly worth troubling the happycow team (eg typos, having uploaded a wrong photo, or wanting to upload a better photo of a similar dish on a second visit)
- leaving a review without a rating. one instance where i see this happening is for a stall that i would not patronise because of personal preference but can still observe neutrally, e.g. a sidewalk stall that sells mainly gluten dishes.

combine both search boxes?
on the main happycow.net page, there are two search boxes: one for "restaurant, region, city, state, region or country", one for "everything else".
i question the need for two search boxes, especially when the first does not seem to be accurate. eg searching for "happy veggies" (either with or without quotes ) results in "Sorry, this location/business was not found, has been deleted, or you have entered an invalid URL." whereas the other gives me accurate listings, detailing all three happy veggies outlets in hong kong).
such skewed results might put the casual user off and i wonder if there's any way to streamline both search boxes.

singapore and hong kong are so small. if i want to follow those cities, i don't want to have to click several times on central/east/northwest/north/west or hk island/kowloon/ new territories/outlying islands respectively. please allow me to do so just on the main singapore or hk page.

Login as a restaurant
Hi there, everyone !
I'm a little bit dissconcerned because I don't know how to upload pictures from the restaurant. At the main page, I can only upload the profile pic. Also I cannot download the HappyCow app because my phone has not the right version to get it.
Maybe someone can help me? Sorry if this topic shouldn't be written here, I'm new on this page, but I'd like to share the vegan dishes we make. Hope you like it :)

Ability to rate and sort photos
Would be nice to have a swipe up to like, down to dislike rating when browsing photos.
Could then allow sorting options by rank/date posted.
Could help surface higher quality pics to the top of photo results.

Boss's play roulette of under 18 workers
I think i know now why my boss trash talked his employee's when i was dining where i ate w a friend ..it's cause he has good staff but doesn't call them to work ,and uses girls that won't speak up about getting the correct pay or even a consistant work schedule . I believe he is purposly throwing away 18 + year old workers & only keeping the one's that accept the rate of 10 bucks per hour . Long story short ,don't fall for nice owners of a business they probably also only go for the cheap staff even if their staff never mention pay .Even if their vegg friendly don't fall for the nicest bosses.

Restaurant removed listing, then adds new?
A bit of an ethics questing here maybe.. :)
This restaurant has been on happycow for several years and used to have quite a lot of reviews, one from me as well. BUT, the old listing (and all of the mostly mediocre reviews) has been removed and there´s a "fresh" listing up with only good reviews.
Question is, is this allowed? Seems a bit dishonest to just start a new listing when there´s lot´s of review you don´t like?

Food courts with a single vegetarian stall
Once again I recently came across a vegetarian stall in a non-vegetarian food court. The individual stalls share some of their kitchen utensils, but seem to prepare most of their food separately. However contrary to a market hall a food court like this (Pier 21 in Bangkok) will be run as a single enterprise. The employees taking orders for the vegetarian food have no particular affinity to vegetarianism and the supply chain is likely to be the same as for all the other kitchens. It's a single restaurant operation.
For a vegetarian there are at least two reasons to favour vegetarian restaurants over regular ones. The first is the wish to eat food that isn't "contaminated" with residues of non-vegetarian food preparation. This might be due to neglect of staff that doesn't have any affinity to vegetarianism, general laxness etc. The second is the wish not to support businesses that generate most of their profits by killing or abusing animals. (I regard the second aspect as much more important as the first, because the second is less about me and my "purity" and more about animals and their interests.)
So does a vegetarian food counter in a non-vegetarian food court qualify as vegetarian? The Happycow community seems convinced it does. I couldn't find any examples of vegetarian stalls being downgraded because of their surrounding. But shouldn't we take the context into consideration?
The split-up of a restaurant into a vegetarian stall, a stall for fish and a stall for meat is arbitrary. Is this much better than to separate Asian, European and Arabic kitchens from each other (and have vegetarian choices marked as such on each menu)? What is won by the first set-up?
To provide an example: The MBK Centre Food Court in Bangkok gets 4 out of 5 stars on Happycow (http://www.happycow.net/reviews/vegetarian-food-mbk-bangkok-341). I haven't been to the place, but if it is run like the food courts I have seen, the vegetarian counter belongs to the same restaurant operation that is famous for its Shark Fin Soup (see the MBK Bangkok review on Tripadvisor). Shark fin is one of the ingredients explicitly despised by Happycow. (Try to create an entry for a non-vegetarian restaurant and read the note!) Shouldn't we take this into consideration?
