A new alternative social network If you guys have not heard already, a new alternative social network has launched on kickstarter called "Miramir. Im super excited for this. Couldn’t come at a better time. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/maxsidorov/miramir-social-network-for-change Here is their description "Miramir will soon become an alternative to Facebook, as well as other networks, and it is aimed at the privacy fighters and change makers, activists and advocates, yogis and vegans, meditation enthusiasts and sacred geometry followers, preppers and alternative news readers, raw fooders, vegetarians and health conscious individuals, urban gardeners and alternative technology lovers, the kindness deeders and peace promoters of the world. All the great people of our earth who care for our planet, people, and future as a human race. The really groundbreaking aspect to Miramir is that it is much more than just a social network. It is a Facebook, Ebay, Reddit, Quora, Meetup, Craigslist, Plenty of fish, Kickstarter, Airbnb, and a lot of other networks combined into one. Except with a big difference. It is focused on privacy, freedom of information, world changing ideas, global consciousness, community, interconnectedness, and a healthy future of humanity which we all want to be a part of." A present situation in Tokyo,Japan It's too bad and sad. Many people in Japan are arfraid of eating vegetables, even if they are safety. Because of "the rumor" or "misunderstanding". One of my favorite restaurant,"J's kitchen" in Tokyo was colsed the other day. And Not only "Little Heaven" but also many this kind of restaurants fall into crisis. I never hope "misunderstanding for vegitables" confuse the people and distress their managers. If people who love vegetables on this site visit Japan, I want you to taste and enjoy Vegan&Vegetarian retaurants as much as possible. Of course, residents in Japan, too. Advice? New Veg + Foodie + Love Rest! Hi All, I'm a pesetarian, wannabe vegetarian, who recently decided (after reading Safran's Eating Animal) that I am going to try (yet again) to align my taste buds with my values. I really want to be conscious of the choices before me, especially knowing all the negative impact eating meat has on the environment, the planet, etc...so I feel really guilty even when I have fish, bc I don't feel like I do what I preach :/ Yet, when I look at back at the times I have failed (or the reason why I have evolved into a pesetarian) its because I am a big foodie, and love the dining experience. Its just so difficult to find these type of restaurants, and dish selections seem to be so few and far between. I just wanted to know if anyone else encounters the same issue- of not knowing what restaurants offer the most vegetarian friendly options? What do you do? Do you eat out less bc of it? I read an earlier review that said "when in doubt, bring your own". But when you're not a good cook like me, with a busy schedule and living in an awesome foodie city like San Francisco, that's really hard-- especially if you're single :/ If you're a fellow lover of restaurant dining, perhaps some suggestions here? What do you go through in the search process? Or am i the only one with this frustration of feeling like restaurant/dish selection becomes limited? I really am committed to wanting to be a vegetarian and would love to get any feedback/suggestion so I can finally say, with confidence that I can do it! Thanks!! Animal Rights Petition For all those who are interested I started a petition on animal rights at Whitehouse.gov. There is a new feature called We The People that accepts any petition. It will go live and be searchable once the number of signatures hits 150. Please read, sign, and pass on. wh.gov/4SP Extend Animal Cruelty Laws to Factory Farm Animals Every year in the U.S. approximately 10 billion farm animals are subject to extensive suffering and inhumane living conditions in factory farms that no animal kept as a pet would ever experience. This is primarily a result of laws known as “Common Farming Exemptions”. These laws allow animals raised for food to be given virtually no consideration in regards to the pain and suffering they experience. Common conditions in factory farms include debeaking of chickens without anesthesia, removal of piglets’ tails after birth, chick culling (the killing of all male chicks shortly after birth in the egg industry), extremely confining spaces, and of course the eventual slaughter of the animal. It’s time to recognize that animals can suffer and feel pain whether or not they are our pets. Post Date: 10/04/11, Replies: 1

Anybody from Dubai? Fancy a challenge? Hello there! In case anybody else is hanging out in Dubai in June, how about a Happy Cow challenge? I've gone through the restaurant listings for Dubai on Happy Cow and found that many places have rather vague info attached and now reviews. To make things better for veggies in Dubai and visitors to the city, I'm planning to visit as many of the listed outlets this summer to try their nomz, update the Happy Cow listings, and add some reviews. Fancy joining? Send me a PM here or email [email protected] Post Date: 05/18/14, Replies: 0

Anyone in Gothenburg here? I am not from Sweden myself, but I am going there soon and I have had no luck finding any vegetarian/vegans to hang out with or who could show me around the place :(. So wondering if any people on this community are from Gothenburg, it would be very appreciated to have someone to hang out with while travelling alone. Tips of places to go to see and eat is also very appreciated. I know happycow have some places mentioned already but it is a bit lackluster in Gothenburg. Been there barely before but got a good impression of the vegan alternatives they had, surpasses Oslo for sure. Post Date: 07/03/09, Replies: 0
Are we being discriminated against? Maybe other people go through similar things, ok they probably do. But it's something that makes me really angry. My work is dedicated to making sure there is no discrimination based on age/race/gender/sexual orientation/culture...which is great! but there seems to be no restriction on goading and questioning non-meat eaters. This is also discrimination. If you experience anything like this then please comment. Post Date: 10/01/13, Replies: 2

Biking Europe to help animals Hi lovely people! Me and my friend Magdalena have been thinking about combining travels and social activism for a while and today we started an indiegogo campaign called ''Raising awareness and helping animals'' and we really need your help :) We want to bike Central Europe and the Balkans to help rescuing animals from slaughterhouses and raise awareness about what's going on with our climate. To make this happen we need to raise $ 1,500 in 35 days. Every contribution is priceless to us ,even one dollar can make a difference Post Date: 06/14/15, Replies: 1

Can we pick your brains please? We're two dudes doing some research into new adventures in business and feel that veggies and vegans aren't catered for particularly well at all, and we want to change that. Firstly, we're looking at getting some delicious super-tasty veggie/vegan hampers out into the big wide world and are wondering if anyone out there would actually like one? We're talking really great flavours and beautiful produce with the added bonus of not inconveniencing any animals. If these things existed: A: Would anyone buy them? B: How much would you be prepared to spend? . . and on a more general note, are there any products along these lines that you really want but can't get in your country? . Thanks for reading, and if you can take the time to respond then thank you very much for that too! Post Date: 06/20/13, Replies: 2
Candide woman who wants change everything Hi all ! This is my first post in this forum, but I sincerely hope not the last. I'm Bénédicte, I'm French and I try to make a transition to vegan after years of ignorance. At first, I was just curious about being slim, then being healthy. So I was curious and read a lot of blogs, watched a lot of youtube videos. I like animals, of course, but I like humans too (at least most of them). And then, I saw documentary about GMO and more specifically about Monsanto. And I am so in shock about what happens to farmers that don't want to be a part of it, and are forced to, I'm even more feeling bad to see HOW MANY products are actually more or less related to Monsanto (even Apple and Microsoft). I feel a bit scared and panicked, because I want to do something, but feel so lonely facing those giants. Am I the only one ? Is there anywhere I can go ? Somehting I can do ? I am not extreme in my words and thoughts, because I'm conscious that we cannot radically change the world in one year (and I definitely need to use microsoft for my work). So, what is it about ? I sincerely hope to meet great people over here and share loads of strategies. Sorry for the long post, I was desperate ! See you all soon :) :) Post Date: 11/13/15, Replies: 0
