Natural foods is a great looking shop/cafe, but it needs to find a niche. you can see some money has been spent, the interior is as nice as any establishment in Edinburgh. i didn't eat so can't really tell you if the soups/sandwiches are good. staff were preparing food and it looked fresh and the staff were really pleasant. It just doesn't seem to be big enough for a cafe, and i'm not sure if there is a big enough take away custom in a price sensitive area of edinburgh. there is a decent amount of product on sale, but again i'm not sure of the aim. there are some organic dried foods, a small vegetable section and a selection of snacks. there is also a large selection of cosmetics, which overwhelms the rest of the shop. everything about the shop is great, but nothing wants me to go back again. the cafe isn't as good as meadowlark or himalaya both within 15 minutes and the shop isn't as good as new leaf or real foods, which are within 20 minutes walk. i asked a member of staff, who was really helpful, if they were vegetarian or vegan? i was told everything was at least vegetarian, i asked why they didn't advertise that and was told it was fairly obvious most health food shops are vegetarian. it's not that obvious, it's really not. hopefully it will find a niche soon, and i look forward to trying lunch soon.
