- Reliable, tasty vegan food in Muscat
While in Muscat we visited this restaurant several times, because it was so good, and so easy to get vegan food. We tried the south Indian thalis, dosa, and fusion meals (idly szechuan, gobi manchurian, fried rice), and drinks. Everything we had was delicious. It was always easy to communicate our 'no dairy' needs, and the whole place is pure veg, so no need to worry about meat, eggs, stock, gelatine etc. The staff clearly knew what had dairy and what didn't. Ordering a thali with no dairy got us several curries, roti, rice, rassam, coconut sambal, and watermelon for dessert. It is not as cheap as some of the places catering to migrant workers (which are great tasting, but more difficult to communicate vegan), but it was worth it for the ease of ordering vegan. It is still cheap by Australian standards, being around 4-7 Omani Riyal for a larger two-person meal with drinks. ($13 - $23 Australian) Thalis are 2 OR ($6.50 Australian), drinks are 0.5 - 1 OR ($2 - $3.50 Australian). Dosa less than 2 OR. The vibe is relaxed, there is paid parking out the front (free between 1pm and 5pm), although I never saw anyone pay, and we couldn't pay without an Omani mobile, so we just crossed our fingers (the fine for not paying costs less than the meal, and we never saw anyone get fined). It was difficult to park on Thursday afternoon, but fine other times.
