- Eclectic Grocer -- NOT Health Food Store
Eclectic grocer carries elk and bison meat, but does not carry a most basic vegan item -- soy protein powder. Lots of fancy expensive tourist items, artisan bread, elite cheese, instant camping food. Does not disclose whether lunch buffet items are vegan, true vegetarian (not with fish or foul), have typical allergens, etc. They fail to keep buffet salad dressing properly chilled, and gave me food poisoning. While buffet costs nearly $8/lb., they repackage the leftovers (which have been exposed to the health risk of public self serving) and then charge even more. They have a stereotypical Oregon hippie vibe (don't care about details, even mismarking prices, you better count your change). But, they simply do not have a healthy food perspective, or a sustainable economy and ecology attitude. If you like Natural Selection or Whole Foods, then this is your kind of place, scaled down to coastal community size and quality.
