- Beautiful location and fun dining experience!
I have been going to the Old Spanish Sugar Mill with my family since I was a kid. The non-vegan pancakes are delicious, and I loved cooking pancakes on the griddle at our table. Well, I was THRILLED to find out they now offer vegan and gluten free pancake mix and vegan sausage! Both are pretty tasty. I like to add in optional blueberries, bananas, and pecans to the pancakes. They also offer fresh orange juice. Unfortunately they do not have vegan milks for coffee yet. The restaurant is located inside the State park and overlooks the springs. It's a great family place. Go with time to take a short nature hike, swim in the springs, boat ride, walk in the butterfly garden, or paddle around the park. On weekends or holidays, there can be a long wait for the restaurant. The restaurant is small because it is located inside the old historic building. The remnants of the mill are just beside the building. Also, while they do offer meat products like bacon/ham, the meat is cooked out of sight in the back kitchen. So, you don't have to watch the meat eaters cook their food. However, eggs are cooked on the griddle. Each table has a griddle, so it's only a problem if you dine with people in your party who eat eggs. Also, it's not really a con, but please be aware that you have to pay park entry to eat at the restaurant because it is located inside of the park.
