- Unique - great if you like mock meat
To the best of my knowledge, this is the first vegetarian ‘fish and chip’ shop in the country, run by friendly locals. Serves vegetarian versions of the kinds of dishes you’d expect to find in any English chippy. The chips are very good, but in my opinion the main attractions are the pasties, masala ‘fish’ and ‘chicken’ drumsticks (made from soy). Most of the dishes are vegan. Don’t expect a fancy restaurant – this is a fast-food takeaway in a dingy part of town (Hockley area) specialising in deep-fried comfort food. But if you like mock-meat, this is a fun (and unique) place to visit for greasy treats. The food is cheap – for example, pies and pasties cost between £2 and £3 each.
