The rather oddly-named Bunters (does this perhaps aptly refer to one's waistline when one leaves?) is a little Greek-themed café with a couple of good vegan dishes; I recommend the giant beans. The hot chocolate comes highly commended (frothy with sprinkles!). The owners are very nice and speak good English. There were cakes labelled gluten-free when I visited but sadly none vegan at that time. There's a toilet, though you have to go on a magical mystery tour (upstairs) to get there. The interior is dark and quaint with art for sale on the walls; there's a nice outdoor seating area just across from the Old Gaol (with stocks and everything!). It was a great relief to find this place given that Hexham Tans was closed at the time I visited.
