- Best Vegan-Only Place in Athens
I went to Trivoli for lunch today and was blown away by two things: the food and the owner, Manos. Immediately upon my walking through the door I was greeted with a warm welcome in Greek from Manos. I asked if he spoke English and was greeted with a warm welcome in English. Manos really sets the tone of this place. I knew right away I was going to like this place, regardless of how the food tasted. Once my food arrived, I ordered the suggested burger and fries, I was completely impressed with the ridiculously delicious burger and homemade vegan mayonnaise. Manos continued to check on me throughout my meal, engaging in great conversation every time he did. You cannot help but to feel Manos is a great friend and if only you were staying in Athens longer... regardless how long you are staying. Seriously, I cannot say enough good things about Manos and Trivoli. I plan on going there again tomorrow, and as often as I can while in Athens. I simply must try all Trivoli has to offer... or perhaps I will again fall for the lure of one of the greatest vegan burgers I have ever had... and that is saying something, whereas I have been vegan since 2004!!! Trivoli may seem a bit out of the way on the map, but it is not! It is only a short walk from the metro station Ilioupoli, which is just six stops past Acropoli, going toward Elliniko. I can't recommend Trivoli enough. Give it a try, you will not be disappointed. UPDATE: I have since had the falafel, which was great, and the mixed platter, also great, and the faux meatball-type things. I liked them, though was not a big fan of the sauce. However, having them with the homemade vegan mayonnaise, I am sure, would be delicious. Manos has once again proven that personality goes a long way to making a restaurant wonderful.
