- Great downtown location to grab a sandwich
Ike's is a great addition to the vegan options in downtown San Jose. They have quite a few veg sandwiches (which they list in a separate section.) Most of them have fake meat (but not all). Be sure to ASK FOR vegan if you want vegan. They have vegan cheese and vegan "dirty sauce" (their general sandwich spread). For the most part the staff is vegan aware and helpful. Certainly much more so than your average sandwich shop. But do note that you need to ask for vegan cheese (or for the entire sandwich to be vegan), and the pesto has cheese in it (so leave that off). If you are not big on fake meat, then I'd recommend the sandwich "sometimes I'm a vegetarian" which has grilled mushrooms and artichokes on it.
