  • Great new Pho option with standard good eats

We go to Bona often for dinner pre-game. No problem w/ seating, walk right in. Service is very fast, occasionally chatty but generally no-nonsense "what do you want"...friendly enough. Restaurant is simple, clean and tidy. Had vegetable broth Pho w/ vegetables and added tofu tonight. Having never had (beef) pho, I have no frame of reference, and being Norwegian-American, I have no comments on authenticity. All that aside, I liked it for what it was. A broth noodle soup with carrots, cabbage, snow peas and a large side dish of bean sprouts, Thai basil, lime and jalapeno slices. Jazzed it up just a tad with sriracha and down the hatch. A small was plenty for one person. The veggie spring rolls are plain, boasting rice noodles, bean sprouts, lettuce and cilantro...the peanut sauce is pretty good. The egg rolls my husband really likes. Vegetables only, no egg in filling. (Have never asked about the wrappers.) Ask for no fish sauce (normal dip), substitute peanut sauce! The Bun Tofu is great too. Nicely sauced fried tofu over rice noodles, lettuce, cucumbers, bean sprouts. And my husband's favorite, fried potatoes and mock duck. Not for someone watching their figure! Crispy fried sliced potatoes in a rich brown sauce with sautéed onions and good texture/flavor mock duck.
