• Many Vegan and Vegetarian Choices

I visited Mercearia do Conde on a recent trip to Brazil (December 2015) and was very impressed. The menu has a symbol to indicate dishes that are vegan, and another to indicate vegetarian dishes - no need to ask the waiter/waitress (a big plus if your not fluent in Portuguese). Everything we ordered was excellent. The cuisine is a mix of food from around the world, so you'll likely find something to enjoy. The service was excellent. The price isn't cheap, but this is a regular restaurant in a nice neighborhood and prices are comparable with other similar restaurants in the area (but these other restaurants have nothing vegetarian except for salad). I highly recommend Mercearia do Conde, especially if you're going out with meat eaters who balk at the idea of heading to a vegetarian restaurant (of which there aren't many that are open for dinner). We went on a Tuesday night and the place was nearly full, so if you go on a weekend, reservations may be a good idea.
