  • a must try while in Hue

I was in town for a few days with my visitng family, and our first choice for veg food was closed. So we opted for San May as a second choice, and learned that this place should always be everyone's first choice. The restaurant is tucked away in a quiet location, surrounded by gardens and fruit trees. The menu has a wide variety of traditional Vietnamese dishes, all priced to local standards. The staff was attentive, and great. I've lived in Vietnam for four years now, and thought the food was insanely good. My family, three non-vegetarians visiting from overseas, left thinking this was one of the best restaurants they'd been to on their trip. We were all satisfied and full at the end of the meal, and our bill didn't exceed $15 (for four people!). Incredible. Some favorites were the fresh spring rolls, Bun Thai (vermicelli soup with Thai spices) Bun Thit Nuong (vermicelli dry with fresh herbs, grilled mock meat and fried spring rolls) and Bun Rieu (vermicelli in tomato based soup).
