  • Tasty comfort food done well

With no veggie restaurants open in the evening in Canterbury we explored some of the ‘veg-friendly’ options. At the Old Weavers we were drawn in by the speciality pies including one veg option. As a starter we shared their cheddar fritters with raspberry sauce. We’d have probably chosen a stronger cheese for this robust dish but it was a great idea. We then had a spaghetti with broccoli and veg, and the spinach and root veg pie. Both were tasty – not remarkable but enjoyable. And then to finish up we shared a treacle pudding. All in all it was a good meal at a reasonable cost – about £30 for the two of us. Slightly disappointed that they didn’t serve their Kentish wines by the glass but consoled by the Kentish Pip cider.
