  • A friendly restaurant in a quiet location

Les Templiers is a rare thing in Parthenay: a vegetarian-friendly restaurant in a quiet centre-town location, and is open 6 days a week, lunchtime and evenings. The menus offer a range of galettes (savory pancakes), pasta, pizza and salads with vegetarian-friendly options for each. However, it is good to ensure the staff realise you are vegetarian from the start (I did so when calling to reserve). As it was, we were offered a meaty snack to accompany the non-alcoholic aperitif, which I hastily got replaced by nuts. For the main course we tried galettes containing tomato, cheese, mushrooms and pepper (substituted for the ham) with a side salad and a "supplement" of French fries. We drank San Pellegrino mineral water with it, as no alcohol-free beer was available. The desserts are varied, but we opted for glaces (range of flavors is good) and a short coffee to end. The terrace where we ate was light and airy (warm day) the service good and the menu prices reasonable. Food well-cooked and well displayed. I should note that the menu does include a vegetarian "tartine" which we hope to try another time. The restaurant pleasantly surpassed expectations for vegetarian eating out in a small French town, especially with good free parking throughout town.
