- Very expensive, strange service
I was stoked to go have some vegan American comfort food after six months traveling in the Mexican countryside. We were first shocked by the extremely high prices (relatively). After paying $15 for incredible vegan tacos at Por Siempre, seeing two tacos for $55 and veggie burgers for $125 was a bit of a shock. We decided to splurge though and both got an expensive sandwich (veggie burger and rueben). Ruebens were one of my favorite sandwiches when I ate meat, so I'm always stoked to get a veggie one. Well! First of all, we waited quite a long time for our food. No biggie, it's Mexico and we've learned to drop our entitled American service attitudes. But then we realized that they'd taken our plates over to these two girls who were photographing the food so they could take pics while we waited! I'm not one for wasting food, so I ate it anyway. One might imagine that the food they made for promo photos would have some extra love. Hopefully not because our food was fairly mediocre. The burger was extremely lacking. My wife paid an extra $25 for avocado and tempeh bacon and got a couple small slices of avocado and three shriveled, flavorless pieces of ordinary tempeh. It came with sweet potato fries, which were decent. The rueben was a bit better, but still lackluster. A proper rueben should be stuffed and messy, but this one was very stingy. The best part was the veggie chips that came with the rueben. These were delicious, although you won't like them if you don't like a lot of salt like we do. They did bring out free aguas de sabor "for the wait", but the whole photographing thing was still pretty tacky. Service was very friendly.
