- Vegan???
If you are in downtown Arlington and walking off the beaten path, there are a few options that seem to have some vegan appeal. This place seems to be one of them. However, be warned that this place prides itself on using fresh ingredients, fresh preparation and gluten-free everything, but nowhere does it use the word vegetarian or vegan. Thus, if it is veg*n, it is a coincidence. For the pre-made bowls, there is one that has cheese and one has tofu, the others have meat. If you try to get one of the others without meat, you can do it, but they will not offer for you to sub in tofu. For the make-your-own bowls, you pay for protein, base and 3 vegetables. At the prices they offer, you would expect that there would be a huge amount of food, like at some other salad places. Nope. The portions are a small soup-sized bowl. The food does not taste healthful, but rather, it tastes high in salt. The good vegetables that are most healthful are in small quantities. Most of the ingredients are not organic. The smoothies have soy and almond milk, but they are Silk brand, not organic. For the prices here, I would hope for either the menu being organic or having large portions. Neither of those is true, making Bowl'd an unhappy choice for the price and quality. Do yourself a favor, and literally, right across the street, go to the juice cafe - although smaller, it is far more popular, and it is obvious to me why it is more popular.
