- good food
Pleasant service at small cafe one street over from rail station, Tues.-Sat. 10-4. Doing a brisk business, all tables filled, at 12:30 on a Friday in December. Daily mains and soup listed on blackboard. Several items are vegan. I had the vegan organic leek and potato soup, drizzled with soy cream, served with wholemeal bread and vegan spread. Also the vegan Forester's Pie, pastry topping on mushrooms, squash and gravy, served with broccoli, browned potatoes and a nice green salad. Special herbal teas, green teas, Fair Trade teas and sugar, juices, smoothies, sparkling drinks, organic wine. Bagels, tea cakes, etc. Desserts included orange & caraway cake, ginger cake, raspberry chocolate cake, coffee walnut slice, chocolate rum pudding (warm) - two were gluten-free. "Most vegetables are organic and locally sourced. Eggs are free range."
