- Top marks!
The Valladares deli & store takes it's name from the surname of the friendly owner Karina and it is clear she takes the same pride in her store as in her surname: it is well laid out, with the deli counter and dining area, (which contains two medium sized tables with seating), in the middle of the store, with chilled products to the left of deli counter and general grocery, including fresh vegetables, to the right. The majority of the products are organic and it has an advantage over Veganz because Valladares stocks the best vegan patisserie brand in Europe, Lujuria Vegana, (check out their website), and also a great vegan brand from Belgium called Aman Prana, alongside it's other vegan staple brands like Wheaty, Wilmersberger, Byodo, etc. The Valladares is situated in an area of Berlin called Moabit, a couple of miles north of Tiergarten. Exit Westhafen (S) on a bridge over the train line and look for large yellow Tolmein building and head in that direction, (you need to be on the opposite side of the road), and the Valladares is a 4 minute walk to a set of stairs on the bridge, (opposite yellow Tolmein building), and once you have got to the bottom of the stairs, it is a maximum 4 minute walk down Salzwedeler Str. turning left into Stephen Str. and you will see Valladares on a cornerblock 100m on your right, just past the childrens' playground. That's the tricky part...finding Valladares via the stairs! Everything is smooth sailing after that. The owner is charming and the selection is wonderful, with fair prices: vegan croissants and fresh bread... delicious vegan patisserie and a great grocery section, what more can you want as a vegan?!! Support this store, because this is how a vegan store should be... intimate, friendly and fairly priced! There are plans to extend the size of the deli store and no doubt this concept will expand further around Berlin at a future date! EE card accepted and cash.
