  • Vegan in Penn Quarter

Spreading some more vegan love, Native Foods is taking the DC market by storm with the second addition to its planned trifecta. This location brings some verve to a desert of food choices. This part of downtown feels dull at best and unwelcoming to veg*ns most times. Native Foods in this part of town adds one more solid and reliable vegan dining choice with quality food, organic ingredients, consistent flavorings, a revolving seasonal menu and fair prices. This cafe has more more more outdoor seating, which is great because it adjoins the circular Navy Memorial Park. It is literally steps away from the Metro, making it highly convenient if you are on the Yellow or Green line. There is also some bike parking around and car parking ain't too shabby. I prefer the decor here and ambiance better than the northern location in DuPont. However, it had a shallower space so when you walk in it's the counter and a few tables. More seating if you look for it, but it feels smaller but cozier. The menu is all vegan, so you can order anything if your concern is having 100% vegan food. They make some of their own proteins, which is cool. They have plenty of delicious choices like salads, veg and protein topped grains, sandwiches and burgers, and a few desserts. Nachos and Fries seem popular, but sweet potato fries are my preference. Plenty of tasty side choices, though small in portion, like roasted veggies, slaw, broccoli and the like. Healthful! Some decent dessert choices, like brownies and pumpkin pie, but not why you'd come here. The beverages are lovely though- I love their iced teas, unsweetened but flavorful my spiced. I love the veggie focus, but I still feel they need some raw dishes and more gluten free choices. The veggies are also not as heavily highlighted as I would like, still lots of protein grain foci. You can order in advance, so that's cool. Customer card for rewards? Why not- they are national!
