  • Simple but good food for good price

This is a small self-serve eatery run by the Jogyesa temple with a limited menu: only 3 noodles and 2 rice main courses. Each meal comes with free flow of Kimchi, rice and seaweed soup which you can help yourself to. Drinking water is also available from a dispenser (self service). You need to buy the meal coupon (4000W) from the temple's souvenir shop first before you come to the kitchen. Hand over the coupon to the staff and tell them what you want. While you wait for your main course, you can help yourself to the kimchi, rice and seaweed soup. I came here twice during my trip and tried the Bibim Guksu (the noodles equivalent of Bibimbap) and the Janchi Guksu. The Bibim Guksu is cold noodles served with slices of cucumber and greens and half an hard-boiled egg with a slightly spicy sauce. The sauce was really good and after I finished the noodles, I added rice to the sauce to finish it. The second time I had the Janchi Guksu which is noodles in a hot broth. It is good and makes a good meal in a chilly day. After you are done, clear up your table and bring your bowls to the counter (follow what others do). menu: 3 noodles: Janchi Guksu 잔치국수 = noodle in hot broth (looks vegan) Bibim Guksu 비빔국수 = bibim noodle, cold noodle in spicy sauce (has egg) miyeok ongshimi 미역 옹심이 = seaweed and potato starch noodles? 2 rice: On mukbab 언묵밥 = ? nyeong mukbab 냉묵밥 = acorn jelly rice ? Note this not the same as the Baru restaurants in the Temple Stay building run by Jogyesa. This is on the same side of the road as the temple. It's the building that is in front of the stone pagoda and the main hall. The restaurant is not visibly from the temple as the entrance faces the alley. If you can't find it, from the main gates of the temple, walk in the direction towards Jonggak station and turn right into first the alley. Go a little bit further up and you should see it. This is a nice little vegetarian kitchen that serves simple but delicious food for a good price (4000W only). Not much English is spoken. But one of the friendly staff spoke enough English to tell me to buy the meal ticket from the souvenir store and explained the menu to me.
