- Vegan friendly Nepalese
When you are in Adams Morgan, if you are like me, you might just go straight to falafel or junk food. Surprisingly, this location belies the genuine quality of Himalayan Heritage. At a corner location, it had a bright neon sign in Westernized font, again, hiding its potential. At long last, I can say this place is delicious, quality food that is Nepalese, Indian and Manchurian friendly to veg*ns and the gluten-free folks! The menu is extensive, and is kindly marked when the allergens if nuts or gluten are present. More importantly for Happy Cow and veg*ns, there is a V next to all vegan items. From lentil soup to salad to bread to mock meat to curries, all veg*ns can find something! If you like biryani, they have that too. The curry dishes include eggplant varieties, lentils, chickpeas, cauliflower and other dishes with dairy like spinach. They have delicious pakora fried lentil flour based vegetable patties and samosas. They even have Nepalese momos- dumplings with vegetables. The food is freshly prepared and quite tasty. Ask for more spiciness if you like it hot! Note that the food may taste a bit salty, but I suppose that's what rice, water and bread are for counterbalancing! They also bring a condiments dish of puffed/ fried rice, some onion/ garlic mince and green soy beans in a lightly hot peppered marinate. Great touch! When in Adams Morgan or otherwise craving Nepalese food, this will be a great choice. The biggest issue is probably parking.
