  • Mighty Vegetarian - Tuen Mun

i'd nearly walked past this as there was no "vegetarian" signage hanging at the storefront. the huge mosaic lotuses and cartoon monks should have been a big giveaway. the restaurant was bustling with locals, many elderly, which isn't surprising as it's situated in between an industrial/residential estate. if you're dining alone, you'll probably have to share a table, but that's common enough in hong kong. i ordered wanton noodle soup (hkd38 plus hkd5 tea charge). the bulk of the filling was mock meat - soy, i think? - and i'd have preferred more diced veg/mushrooms, but overall it was okay. i'd initially thought of ordering an accompanying plate of leafy veg, but that alone would have cost around 48-60, if i remember correctly (it's not listed in the menu, but pasted on the walls). from 2.30 to 5 pm, there are teatime deals where there's no tea charge and for a small fee you can add on soup, drinks, etc. a similar bowl of noodles would have cost hkd35 then. according to the menu, 10% service charge is included on weekends, 1st/15th of the lunar month and certain vegetarian festivals (i'm not sure if i understood that bit correctly). it's not a place i'd intentionally make a trip for a meal, but it seems to be the only vegetarian eatery in this part of tuen mun. would go back again if i'm in the area.
