  • Better Than Anticipated!

Mackinac is known for a lot of things, but vegetarian/vegan friendly food is not among them! And while the island will likely never become a vegan Mecca, it is slowly becoming more vegan friendly. My wife and I stopped in to Twist 'N Sprouts today looking for something healthful and were not disappointed! I ordered the vegetarian wrap which was full of tasty veggies, chickpeas and a balsamic vinegarette. It was served with some chips and, while not huge, I left quite full (and I have quite an appetite). My wife went with the salad bar and we were impressed with the selection. For her plate of salad, my wrap and a bottle of water it was about $25, which is relatively reasonable for island standards. We both left satisfied, and happy that we found a place that actually advertised veggie/vegan options (they had a vegan coconut frozen yogurt as well! We didn't try that but I imagine it was also tasty). However the best part of lunch was interacting with the owner. He talked with all the customers and seemed interested in us all. When he found out we were vegetarians he rushed to the back and brought out a sample of vegetarian chili he had created. Not only was it delicious, but it made me smile that he was so proud of it and anxious to share. Overall I was very glad that we stopped in, and recommend it!
