  • Vegan pizza made to order

When you walk into Custom Fuel Pizza, you might think it looks kinda showy, focusing on a theme (fuel) and not vegan friendly. Oh, fellow veg*ns, you would be wrong. I knew they had vegan cheese (Daiya) and all crusts were vegan (their customer service is very friendly and respond quickly to email inquiries), and I knew that they had calzones and salad. Still… it's DC, it's pizza, and it's not a vegan pizza shop…. it can't be that good. Wow, this place delivers! Thin, crispy crust with fresh ingredients as you see fit to place them atop! Done in less than 5 minutes, and you're ready to eat happily! They separate the "hot" toppings (to be baked) from the "cold" toppings (garnish when it comes out). I love that touch. They will alter the pizza specials as you request, or just build your own! If you build your own, start with crust, add tomato sauce or garlic oil, pick 4 toppings and you're good! Toppings include mushrooms, artichokes, tomatoes, scallions, red onions, olives, Daiya, fresh basil, cilantro, lemon zest, roasted peppers, spinach and sun-dried tomatoes. The pizza was fresh, fast and piled with many veggies. I loved it! It was great the gluten-free crust was also vegan. If you want something else, you can order it as a calzone (folded over itself) with marinara sauce, or have a salad (hold the cheese). The hours they keep are relatively late for this part of DC, so it is awesome when you have a 10 pm craving for fresh vegan pizza.
