  • Veg options plentiful but pricy

This part of DC does not have many veg friendly and veg focused eateries, so right off the bat, Hawthorne wins on that front. However, I wonder if because there is no competition or not enough demand/ clientele that prices are a bit high? Once sticker shock is over, it's good! I love the choices of juices or smoothies, all are vegan of course. They have vegan brownies from Uncle Chips, as well as banana but bread that's vegan. In the refrigerated case, they have raw vegan tarts and chia pudding. Yum. Also, they have premade raw collard green wraps with turnips, cashews and almonds that are, yes, pricy, but a unique and light flavor. There is a vegan tofu breakfast burrito and bagels. They also have salads and wraps that can be veganized. Everything is not organic though, so just be aware if you are concerned about that. They have coffee and almond milk, as well as soy milk. A great selection for beverages.
